@TinDogPodcast reviews #DOCTORWHO 2017 - EP06 #Extremis "Extremis" is the sixth episode of the tenth series of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who. It is written by Steven Moffat and was broadcast on 20 May 2017 on BBC One. "Extremis" received extremely positive reviews from television critics, with many praising Peter Capaldi's performance and Steven Moffat's script, though some commented on the complicated script. The Vatican calls upon the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) to investigate the Veritas, a book for which its readers typically kill themselves after reading it. When the Veritas is translated and leaked online, the Doctor must uncover the dark secret that the book holds. It is the first of three loosely connected episodes called "The Monks Trilogy".[1]

We're warning you now - this week's episode of Zeus Plug sounds like a real episode, but you'll find by the end of it that it's actually just a prelude to next week's episode which is in itself part of a three-part Zeus Plug epic. Maybe. Failing the Shadow Test with Jono Park this week are Neil Perryman & JR Southall. Contains someone that may or may not be Lalla Ward (or Polly James... or Zoe), Broadchurch broadsides and possibly the last What's in the Vault?

When we learned just before the start of Series 10 that Steven Moffat opted to begin and end the season with his own penned episodes, it came as no surprise. After all, it was becoming the expected fashion for the showrunner, and none would have expected anything less in his final tenured season. Upon hearing that he would check in mid-series with the start of a three-part arc, however, our collective ears stood up. Something complex and fascinating was in the […]

Ogrons have a lot of hate stored in them.

This week we drop off the audio train for a little while to do a little mental stimulation. This week we actually had to do work for this podcast and read a book, which is honestly too much brainpower for me. It’s The Romance of Crime, written by Gareth Roberts and and published on January 19, 1995

    Show-notes:

9:05 Most people don’t know this but Alcatraz is actually derived from Al Katraz, the famous Arabic poet known for mastering the haiku. One of his most famous poems: Raped by the inmates, and then beaten by the guards, then raped by the guards.
21:30 I never knew The Mask was based on a comic. Then again I never knew real life was based on a comic, so yeah.
21:45 No, he is. Nah I’m just messing with you, he’s not.

So, here's our weekly link to Eric Saward's tell-all interview in Starburst.

    Picks of the week

    Brendan

Brendan recommends Matrix, by Robert Perry & Mike Tucker, a BBC Past Doctor Adventure which answers the seldom-asked question, So what's the Valeyard up to these days?

Peri's ultimate fate is explored by Nev Fountain in Big Finish audio Peri and the Piscon Paradox.

(Brendan also mentions in passing the New Adventures novel Bad Therapy, which features the Seventh Doctor and Peri, weirdly.)

    Nathan

Nathan goes embarrassingly highbrow again, recommending the BBC1 comedy frock drama Decline and Fall, based on the novel by Evelyn Waugh.

    Todd

Todd comes up with a couple of excitingly silly recommendations this week: the film Beauty and the Beast, and the CW teen drama Riverdale. More sensibly, he recommends any Big Finish audio starring Colin Baker and Bonnie Langford. And a final shout-out to Big Finish audio Wirrn Isle.

Carrot juice, carrot juice, carrot juice

This week, we say farewell to Colin on television, but here on the podcast we're not willing to say goodbye yet. In two weeks' time, we'll be doing a very special episode on some of our favourite Colin Baker Big Finish audios.

If you want to prepare for this episode, here are the stories you should listen to.

And now it's time for the Trial storyline to implode completely. Nathan turns out to be a distillation of all that is evil in Todd, and Brendan has just stormed out with the only copy of this episode's script. It's the last two episodes of The Trial of a Time Lord -- The Ultimate Foe.

What you are about to hear is the story of a connection, a connection that was made between a television series and a viewer's life.

The You and Who books are the story of that connection, as told by the people who watch the programmes that make us come alive. Chiefly, of course, Doctor Who.

This podcast will relate some of the stories from those books... and beyond.

    In this episode:

'Let us learn who are our allies: Confessions of a lapsed fan' by Peter Cavanna

With an introduction featuring Rob Irwin talking to JR Southall.

The You and Who books, from which all royalties are paid to charity, are available in print and for Kindle, from watchingbooks.weebly.com
