Flirting Wittily
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThis week, we’re joined by Lizbeth Myles from Verity! podcast to discuss a terrifying romantic comedy about the brevity of human life. It’s called Blink. People seem to like it.
Notes and links
Nathan’s allusion to a Phrygian king at the start of the episode comes from a half-remembered story in Herodotus Book 2, in which the Egyptian king Psammetichus kept two children in isolation, believing that they would grow up speaking the oldest human language.
This episode’s conceit and the name Sally Sparrow were first used by Stephen Moffat in a story in the Doctor Who Annual 2006 called What I Did in My Christmas Holidays by Sally Sparrow. You can read it here.
And, of course, we never stop mentioning Stephen Moffat’s breakout TV show Coupling, which is essential viewing for Moffat fans (if somewhat problematic at times). Here’s what Elizabeth Sandifer had to say about it.

059: Jingoism & Jammie Dodgers
Neither The Time Nor The SpaceNote: Apologies for the background noise in the first couple of minutes of this week's episode - a very noisy plane flew overhead and we blithely assumed it wouldn't be picked up by our mics, but we were evidently mistaken!
This week we discuss Series 5, Episode 3 - Victory of the Daleks. So far Matt's not particularly enjoyed any Mark Gatiss-penned episodes. Will this WWII-set Dalek romp be the one that breaks the cycle?
Doctor Who theme by Ron Grainer, arranged by Alexander Erben.

123: Planet of the Spiders
The Krynoid Podcast“No, I shan’t… you shan’t take him!”
Jenny Laird crashes out of the running for her own award in the arachnophobe’s nightmare that is Planet of the Spiders.
It’s a tale of a tweedy traitor, yogic flying, mind-altering jewellery and more creepy crawlies than you can shake a rolled-up newspaper at.
The Brig blushes, Sarah rushes (between two stories) and Mike Yates saves face while the Doctor loses his.
Would you buy a used watch from the Brigadier?
Was Mike Yates already doing exotic dancer exercises?
Can anyone free Lupton’s mandala?
And do Jim and Martin think this story is a Great One or in need of regeneration?
Listen to find out!

TDP 901: The Paternoster Gang: Heritage 2 from@bigfinish
Tin Dog Podcast@TinDogPodcast reviews This title was released in October 2019. It will be exclusively available to buy from the Big Finish website until December 31st 2019, and on general sale after this date. Victorian London harbours many secrets: alien visitors, strange phenomena and unearthly powers. But a trio of investigators stands ready to delve into such mysteries – the Great Detective, Madame Vastra, her resourceful spouse, Jenny Flint, and their loyal valet, Strax. If an impossible puzzle needs solving, or a grave injustice needs righting, help can be found on Paternoster Row. But even heroes can never escape their past… 2.1 Dining with Death by Dan Starkey When negotiations between two warring alien races are sabotaged, Madame Vastra offers Paternoster Row as neutral ground upon which to continue their diplomacy – and to celebrate the treaty with a feast. While Strax frets about hosting two species with very different dietary needs, Jenny investigates the dissenters who want to halt the peace process. But a deadly plot is brewing, and the diners may not survive the cheese course... 2.2 The Screaming Ceiling by Guy Adams In one of the earliest cases of his illustrious career, Thomas Carnacki heads to the Highlands to embark upon the terrifying investigation of Castle Kraighten. On arrival, he finds that another party of sleuths has been engaged – surely these amateurs of Paternoster Row have nothing to teach the great Ghost Finder? But this is no ordinary haunting. A room in the castle has a mouth in its ceiling. And it screams... 2.3 Spring-Heeled Jack by Gemma Arrowsmith People are being stolen from the streets by a monster. By all accounts, it has burning eyes, breathes blue flames, and can leap the height of a building at a bound. While Vastra and Jenny fend off an over-eager member of the gutter press, Strax dives into dangerous waters. Is this Spring-Heeled Jack of legend, returned to terrorise the capital? Or are there more sinister forces at work?

#131 - Wonderfully Silly Aliens
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2We review Invaders from Mars, the Big Finish Main Line release from 2002 featuring Paul McGann as Doctor Who. Ben and David laugh along with this fun story written and directed by Mark Gatiss and set at Halloween 1938. Gatiss creates a joyful pastiche from 1930s radio drama, gangster films, and a hearty dose of 1950s popular sci-fi done with the sketch-comedy stylings of The League of Gentlemen. Ben enjoyed listening to this with fresh ears nearly 18 years after its release and David wondered if the time fallout from Charley would have confused listeners as much as it did for him. Opening and closing music is by Alistair Lock's sound design for the story.
