Episode 31: Jeremy Returns
Something WhoI know what you're saying. What happened to Episode 30? Rest easy, Something Who fans, it's coming. Rather like Seasons 10, 15, 17 and 19 among others, our episodes are coming out in a different order from how we recorded them. And here's a treat for you.
Earlier in the year, Jeremy Bentham joined us on Something Who to chat about his long association with fandom, including his association with the Doctor Who Appreciation Society and his work on Doctor Who Magazine (or Weekly and Monthly as it was known then).
Jeremy returns to talk with me about 4 figures who made the programme that he met in the early years of fandom, plus another who he wishes he had met. Along with his personal memories, we talk about the impact that Patrick Troughton, Douglas Camfield, Ian Scoones, Dennis Spooner and David Whitaker had on Doctor Who and its fandom.
Please like or share our podcast with people who will enjoy it, so we can build our listener base high for happiness. You can rate us directly on Apple Podcasts or Podchaser.com
The opening music is Three Guitars Mood 2 and, yes, that is Richard playing the ukulele and kazoo on possibly the worst ever version of the Doctor Who theme tune at the end.

Arguably the Sontarans are pretty high in the pecking order for both Classic and Modern Doctor Who fans, but how did they get there? Do they deserve to be there? What does the future hold?
After some news and short topics, Rob and Dave take a deep dive on the Sontarans. Their listeners write in with a ton of feedback, too.

314: Jason Bourne is Now a Genre (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang)
Trust Your DoctorI’ll be over here committing tax fraud during the purge, don’t mind me.
Once upon a time I wanted to be a secret agent. But then I realized they probably wouldn’t like some sort of weird RSA expat who lives in the US. They might not trust that I’d be working in the best interest of the agency I work for. Interesting to ponder. It’s Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, written by Chris Chibnall and aired on January 16, 2008.
Show-notes
3:52: If you want to listen to us do what we’re doing hear but with classic sci-fi shows like Sapphire and Steel and The Prisoner, check out our podcast where we do what we’re doing here but with classic sci-fi shows like Sapphire and Steel and The Prisoner, Inevitable: A Classic Sci-Fi Podcast.
5:45: I confused the name of Shirley Bassey’s rejected theme (“Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) with the song I was referring to (“The World is Not Enough” by Straw)
23:03: Now that I think about it, I don’t think Chris actually ever says “Get out” in Get Out.
43:17: “Universal law is for lackeys, context is for kings” – Captain Lorca, 2083 or something.
59:10: Etymonline explains that “dollar” comes from “taler,” short for “Joachimstaler” – “of Joachim” – which refers to coins minted from a silver mine in the town of Joachimstal, which is now known as Jáchymov.
1:05:23: Now Dylan knows.

We talk about Doctor Who coming late to the found footage party, the inherent nastiness of the Sixth Doctor era, eye bogies, missed potential and the perils of Peri. Also: Undercutting giant leaps for diversity, Hammy Darrow, cancelling HG Wells and the things Glen McCoy can do with seven minutes.
