This week we dip into the past to talk about some baddies from the old days. Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, and Tansy as we set out to discuss the historical villains of Doctor Who. Along the way we discover it's much more complicated than it seems. Historical (and pseudo-historical) stories are really different beasts from other types of Who. It's a fascinating discussion! We hope you find it so too.

Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 9 minutes and 17 seconds

Steven Moffat is often praised for his ability to take perfectly normal everyday things and make them terrifying, but Doctor Who has a long history of such antics. Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, and Lynne as we chat about lots of mundane items we now give the side-eye, thanks to our beloved show. From angels to dolls to plastic policemen to telephones, the world is a scary place. Thanks Doctor Who!

And in a strange bit of synchronicity, Deb tries to remember the title of a book she read as a youngster. After recording, she looked it up and discovered it was Mutant 59: The Plastic Eaters, by Kit Pedlar and Gerry Davis--the creators of her beloved Cybermen!

Last, but certainly not least, we do our first Verity! giveaway, courtesy of Paul Cornell! Leave us a comment [on our website] to enter to win a signed copy of The Girl Who Loved Doctor Who! (We'll contact you via the email address used to leave the comment, so make sure it's a legit addy.)

    • Kat fangirls over Doctor Who Classics, Volume 9 from IDW, a nifty DW comic about a library planet!

  • Verity! Episode 35 - Time Lords: Bureaucrats, Baddies, Rogues, & Reprobates

    12 February 2014 (1:30pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 21 minutes and 31 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

This week’s villains hail from the Doctor’s very own planet, Gallifrey. Join Deb, Erika, Liz, and Tansy as we talk about various Time Lord evildoers. Why are so many of the renegades so evil? Is it something about Time Lord society? The fact that they make their children stare into the abyss? Who’s the worst of the lot? Who’s the most interesting?

There’s a lot to cover here, especially since we spend some time oohing and aahing over the 12th Doctor’s costume before we get on with things. You’ll note that we don’t talk too much about the Master or the Rani. That’s ‘cause we’ve covered both of those fine miscreants in previous episodes. Do dip back and take a listen if you haven’t already!

    ^E

Also covered [links on our site]:
Liz can't wait for Gallifrey One!
Tansy is addicted to the Doctor Who Legacy game!
Erika is pleased Matt Smith and Doctor Who won at the UK National Television Awards! And is thrilled to nominate Doctor Who and (more importantly?) Doctor Who podcasts for Hugo Awards!
Deb is pleased Big Finish took home Best Online Only Audio Drama for Dark Eyes at the BBC Audio Drama Awards! And noticed Billie Piper is going to be at Awesome Con D.C.!
We're all pretty excited by the reveal of the 12th Doctor's costume! (Tansy's mum thinks it's a teddy boy look!)

Join ALL of the Verities(!) Deb, Erika, Katrina, Liz, Lynne, and Tansy, as we discuss why we think he's been so successful in the role and reminisce about our favorite 11th-Doctor stories. This week's episode feels more reverent than most, which seems fitting, given the subject matter. Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, and Lynne as we have an almost NPR-style chat about what we enjoyed in this “love letter to Doctor Who.” We all enjoyed it to varying degrees, but as you might expect, some of us had wee quibbles with it. Generally very wee, though. Think of this ep as a mellow way to ease out of the giant (sometimes exhausting) squee-fest that these past few weeks have been.

We made it, guys! The 50th anniversary special has come, kicked booty, and gone again. Join Deb, Erika, Liz, Lynne, and Tansy as we marvel at many things including the ways Doctor Who brings people together, the utter joy of seeing three Doctors on screen together for So Many Minutes, the genius of working in Billie Piper as not-Rose, the way Moffat "fixed" so many elements of classic and new Who, and, not least of all, the hilarity of seeing classic Doctors send themselves up beautifully.

There's more than enough love and joy and squee to go around!
