There are two things we learned since recording this podcast.  The first is never to drink while listening or watching the subject matter that you’re going to review.  The second is that we have a soft spot for Big Finish.  We’ve had our stinkers (Red Dawn) and our triumphs (Peri and the Pescon Paradox), so we dipped our fingers into the audio vault once again and pulled out Big Finish’s most recent of its main line of stories, The Wrong Doctors.

So with that join us as we jump a train to Pease Pottage and visit two Melanie Bushes, two Sixth Doctors (one in blue and the other in his traditional patchwork coat), dinosaurs, and singing septuagenarians.  If that sounds a little confusing, just imagine if you were drunk.

The Seventh Doctor isn’t always planning the downfall of great evil and stopping darkness, sometimes he just wants to have a little fun, so when the idea of visiting the Psychic Circus comes up he’s happy to take it and drag Ace along in the process. Of course instead of finding good fun and creepy clowns they discover a trio of older gods looking for a good time, kites that can spy on you, a killer conductor and creepy clowns. It’s all a part of The Greatest Show in the Galaxy!

We take you back to the 1990′s for this week’s episode. Mystery Science Theater 3000 was one of our favorite shows back in those days. It had a simple concept. A guy with his robot friends “riffing” the most horrible movies you can ever see. With the availability of the show on Amazon Instant Download, we give you some of our favorites.

We also talk the Sci-Fi and Horror Super Bowl ads, more on the defunct Superman Lives, and Firefly – how can they bring it back without Wash? We give you our review of Hansel and Gretel, talk up World War Z and give a retro review of Paranorman.

Christmas.

So with that in mind, the Ood Cast present their review of the Christmas special – The Snowmen.

What would Strax have done in biblical times? What other tall tales did Clara tell? How did Sir Arthur Conan Doyle explain away Madame Vastra to his agent? Can Jenna-Louise Coleman do just the two accents?

These are all questions. Good ones. And we’ll answer every single one of them in a vigorously dramatic format. All that and a couple of spirited musical interludes besides.

In just a few days, the DWP Campervan will be packing up and preparing itself for dematerialisation.  The co-ordinates are set for Los Angeles where hoards of Doctor Who fans will be travelling to from all four corners of the globe to celebrate fifty years of the show we call Doctor Who at the annual Gallifrey One convention.

Sadly, some of the Campervan occupants will be absent – Trev, Leeson and Tom’s invites failed to show up at the correct space-time co-ordinates, and they are therefore destined to miss the campervan’s departure – in very a similar way that Tegan missed the TARDIS at the end of Timeflight. Will they end up in Amsterdam?  Let hope not.  For Amsterdam’s sake.

In the meantime, pull up a chair a listen to Chip from the highly acclaimed Two Minute Timelord podcast and Chris from The Oodcast as they chat toJames about their imminent travel plans, panels, podcast panels, cosplay – you name it, they chat about it.

Episode 45 of The Oncoming Storm is all about The Big Finish story The Eye of The Scorpion by Iain McLaughlin. At least, it's supposed to be. Your hosts Ashley and Josh however, seem to be all over the place this week, in a effort to talk about anything but! Oh, all of the usual topics are touched on, but your hosts seem to be more interested in delving into questions like, "Should new companions be stuck into gaps between stories?" or "Where are all of the historical companions?". How about that age old conundrum, "Why doesn't preventing Erimem from becoming pharaoh piss off Time like that whole Charley thing?" It's a rambley old time in episode 45! The Oncoming Storm... This time, we've got, oh I dunno... some alien scorpions or something? I was busy with the powerpoint on why we need a historical companion again.

Connecting in person to fellow fans can be one of the best fan experiences, though it doesn't always work out that way. We chat about our con experiences in general and our thoughts on Gally specifically.

Will you be at Gallifrey One this year? So will we! Well, four of us anyway--Deb, Erika, Kat, and Liz will be there with ribbons to share!
