Philip Madoc in Fishnets
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThis week, we’re off to the planet Karn for wine, cheese and cyanide with Dr Mehendri Solon and his pet brain-in-a-jar Morbius. And Sarah Jane Smith has never had so much fun!
Buy the story!
The Brain of Morbius was released on DVD in 2008. (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
Notes and links
As usual, the first thing we do with a Hinchcliffe story is to work out which classic horror films it’s, er, paying homage to. This time, it’s the films of James Whale — Frankenstein (1931) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935). James Whale’s own story is told in Gods and Monsters (1998), where he is played by Doctor Who’s very own Sir Ian McKellen. (He did a voiceover in The Snowmen. That totally counts.)
Pieter Bruegel painted three pictures of the Tower of Babel, all of which look very much like Solon’s castle.
Fans of the hilarious way Nathan continually mixes up the names of Doctor Who stories will enjoy how, in his incisive analysis of this season’s terrible flaws, he manages to refer to The Android Invasion as Invasion of the Dinosaurs. And Brendan will try and muscle in on the action later on by calling The Seeds of Doom The Seeds of Death. Aren’t we silly?
For once, Elizabeth Sandifer is not actually responsible for the rule Nathan quotes about canon: it’s part of this brilliant anti-canon rant on the sadly defunct Teatime Brutality blog.

DIDDLY DUM PODCAST 039 - Three Angry Men
Diddly Dum PodcastThere is a grumpiness in the affairs of men, which taken at the flood, leads on to podcasting.
It had to happen one day. By sheer coincidence, life and work had been rough on all three members of the Four Faces of Delusion this week, brewing a cocktail which brought together Doc, Hayden and Matt in equally grumpy moods to record this podcast.
We start with Matt’s report on his recent visit to the “Day of the Doctors 2” event where he actually got offered a jelly baby by the great man himself, witnessed Sylvester McCoy getting his mojo back, heard a story which forever trumps Matthew Waterhouse’s anecdote of finding out that he’d been written out, and Matt splashes the cash in the dealers’ room. Then Doc tells of the parcel of goodies he received which left him thoroughly mystified for a good five minutes and Hayden whores himself out on eBay to part-fund a trip to the USA.
We look at the rumours of an incomplete season in 2016 and reveal the identity of the actress destined to play the Thirteenth Doctor.
In the second half of the show, we give full rein to our grumpiness by building on last time’s “Guilty Treasures” – but this time it’s Guilty Hates. Luckily, the grumpiness of each podcaster’s choice provokes passionate defences by the other two. You haven’t heard this much passion on Diddly Dum since the week Doc did his 20 minute rant about fan forums.
Along the way, we preview the future Big Finish collections – “The Duggan Chronicles” and “The Neeva Chronicles”.

Big Blue Box Podcast - Episode 52
The Doctor Who Big Blue Box PodcastIt’s a spooky shinanagans this week with our review of Hide but first we have our Gallifreyan duty to bring you the latest news. Shall we?
The News
Want to create your own Doctor Who fan project? The BBC have now released Mission Dalek, a content for you lot to make your own Who creation. Video, animation, whatever you want. We’re looking forward to seeing some great stuff with this one.
As we reported last week with the US getting a cinema 3D showing of series 8’s two-part finale, some other counties are now following suit. You lucky folk in Denmark and Russia are now able to catch it too, also on the 15th and 16th of September.
Could we be getting more back links to previous series’ of Who? A recent location shoot has been confirmed at Eddie’s Diner in Cardiff, conveniently the same location used in The Impossible Astronaut. Hmmmm.
Show runner Steven Moffat has been teasing some more series 9 information in the latest edition of Doctor Who Magazine but this time very cryptic, using only a few words this time; "Cards", "Hybrid", "Cobbles", "Solo", "Dead". What can it all mean?
A new book series Doctor Who: The Complete History is coming next month. This impressive series of books goes behind the scenes of popular episodes from each Doctor’s era with a new book out each fortnight. If you want to find out more about the behind-the-scenes of Who, this could be for you.
“Hide” Review
Can Who do a good old fashioned ghost story? What turns out to be be a case of mistaken identity The Doctor and Clara must solve the case to help a stranded person in a pocket dimension. Does it put the hairs up on the back of our neck or does it leave us cold?
This week’s trivia question
Last episode we asked you – By what names do the Doctor and his companions call themselves in the Gunfighters? The answer is – Dr Calligari, Steven Regret and Dodo Dupont.
This week’s question is – Which publication does Sarah Jane Smith work for? Give us your answer in the comments below or post it on Twitter or Facebook. Good luck!
Thank you for joining us this week. Remember to subscribe in iTunes so you don’t miss an episode. Next week we’re reviewing Peter Davison’s Resurrection of the Daleks. Until then have a great week and – Allons-y!

Outpost Skaro PodcastDerek talks to Australian author Dave Hoskin about the first book about the Omni-Rumor (Due out March 2016). Ep-41: Doin' the Charleston at Intervention
Playing Doctor: A Doctor Who PodcastJoined by our friends Ben Taylor and CW Cobalt before a live audience at Intervention, we go back to 1982 and discuss the upperclass English adventure story in “Black Orchid.” The Doctor arrives in the early 20th century countryside for some cricket, a spot of tea… AND MURDER. Several cases of mistaken identity leads to the typical wacky hijinks of a Davison episode. As the Doctor and pals try to unravel the mysteries in the strange house, we try to keep CW from thinking about the Charleston and avoid scathing burns from Future Ben’s wit.
