James talks to Stephen Elsden, the Commander-in-Chief of the Big Blue Box Convention that re-materialises in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday 16 March 2013.

The popular one day convention for fans of Doctor Who rematerialises at Trinity Theatre to mark the 50th anniversary of everyone’s favourite time traveller.

The event will include panel discussions with audience Q&As, a live debate, charity auction, special screenings, signings and stalls.

Guests (subject to work commitments) include LouiseJameson (Leela), Sarah Sutton (Nyssa), Simon Fisher-Becker (Dorium Maldovar) and from inside the Daleks, operators Cy Town and Nicholas Pegg. They’ll be joined by writers and commentators including Simon Guerrier, Gary Russell, Nigel Fairs, Richard Bignell, Will Howells and Jonathan Morris, along with Doctor Who composer Mark Ayres and audio actor and comedian Michael Fenton-Stevens.

The day will conclude with a special performance of Toby Hadoke’s sell out Edinburgh show, My Stepson Stole my Sonic Screwdriver.

All proceeds from this event will go to Compaid, a local charity supporting disabled people

Here it is, the long overdue panel interview with IDW Comics Doctor Who artist, Josh Adams. This interview took place at Planet ComiCon in Kansas City on Sunday, April 7th, 2013. Our very own Keith Miles was moderator, and was joined by Tina Noire of the Kansas City Time Lords Society.

Welcome Who fans to episode 43, jump onboard the Tardis for Doctor Who news (including a mild rant) and our review of The Lodger. Now, onwards we go...

The News

A bitter sweet bit of news for UK fans, the principle cast of DW (Capaldi, Coleman, Gomez and Moffat) are going to Comic Con San Diego. This is awesome news as the show’s international reach and prominence is increased but please, folks of the BBC, we have a couple of great conventions too you know.

A new book is out in October which looks like it’s going to be a corker _Doctor Who: Impossible Worlds: A 50-Year Treasury of Art and Design. The book will cover the design and evolution of things like sets, costumes, spacecraft etc and will include plenty of photos, write ups and even trivia. Pre-order your copy here.

Good news for DW fans in India as we hear that modern Who has been broadcast since 15th May on FX. It’s gained a lot of traction internationally over the last 10 years and to now see it broadcast in India is another step forward.

“The Lodger” Review

It’s back to modern Who this week as we look at a series 5 Matt Smith and James Corden team up in this creepy tale of sinister aliens, a Doctor adapting to human life and a love story which comes good. Does it leave us cheering like fans at a Sunday league football game or bored up on the second floor?

We haven’t talked about Big Finish for a while now, so it was time to recruit Doctor Who podcasting’s foremost expert on Big Finish audio plays, John Brannigan of Cyber Testicle and Radio Rassilon fame, to drink and talk about Peri and the Piscon Paradox, an edition of Big Finish’s Companion Chronicles range by Nev Fountain and featuring – you guessed it! – Nicola Bryant as Peri.

There’s some talk about the story, some talk about Nicola Bryant and our inability to revoke the restraining order, and a little bit of talk about the current series that might just make you put your thumb on your chin and go “Hmmm.”
