We're back! Having required new livers as part of the recovery process from DFW Whofest (thank you, David and Marty), we're back to our regularly scheduled programming: giving you elongated reviews and inane discussion about Doctor Who episodes.

We've thrown the proverbial dart and this time it's landed on "Face of Evil", the Fourth Doctor story that marked Leela's debut. Are you Team Sevateem or Team Tesh? Find out which we are in our latest contribution to the world of Doctor Who podcastery.

Please send us feedback to tardistavern@gmail.com. We'll read it out loud in a voice of your choosing! Also look for us on Facebook and follow Sean on Twitter via @tardistavern.

  • Episode 133: An Evening in Irving with Terry Molloy

    28 April 2015 (11:51pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 2 minutes and 20 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

It's all about last weekend's Whofest 2 in Irving, Texas (that's in the Dallas area for those of you that may not know), and panels, discussions, and things that we saw.

Overall, a good time was had by all, but the highlight was our interview with Terry Molloy on Friday night, in which we discussed his role as Davros, Big Finish, and My Pretty Pony, among other things. Take a listen and see how we did with our first official live interview!

Email us at tardistavern@gmail.com, look for us on Facebook, and follow Sean on Twitter via @tardistavern (although he hardly uses it anymore). Also, you can follow Terry Molloy via @tuckerspatch.

    21 April 2015 (12:22am GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 53 minutes and 10 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

With just a week until Whofest 2, we thought we would sink our teeth into a story featuring the convention's guests, which makes "Revelation of the Daleks" a must-watch for this episode.

Also, Steve reads feedback and almost loses his voice and kills Sean from laughter in the process.

We are lonely. Please email us at tardistavern@gmail.com, check out our awesomely-busy Facebook page, and follow Sean on Twitter via @tardistavern.

    8 March 2015 (7:53pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 59 minutes and 34 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

A double scotch.  Kittens.  Sarah Jane Smith in a swimsuit.  These are things we all love, and at least one of them is in "Death to Daleks", featuring the Third Doctor (whose body double is apparently Ludwig von Beethoven), Sarah Jane, and the most impotent Daleks ever.

We also take some time to talk about recovery after Galifrey One, the upcoming Whofest 2 in Dallas, and manage to plug our email address, which actually exists.

We're great fun on Facebook, so look for us there.  Also, and we know nobody reads these shownotes, but you can email us at tardistavern@gmail.com and follow Sean on Twitter via @tardistavern.

  • Episode 129: When David Met Georgia

    8 February 2015 (9:06pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 18 minutes and 10 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

With things settling back to normal around the Tavern (and we've redecorated - do you like it?), we decide to invite one of our perrenial favorite guest bartenders, Chris Burgess of Radio Free Skaro fame.

We asked Chris what his least five favorite episodes were and, after narrowing them down to the one that would involve the least amount of time in preparation, we watched and discussed "The Doctor's Daughter", featuring the Tenth Doctor, Donna, and Martha.  Steve's Doctor Who Trivial Pursuit makes a comeback as well, proving once again that the writers of the questions strove to simultaneously insult our intelligence and make us feel like we know nothing.

Oh, a little sidenote...this was recorded immediately after the Superbowl, so all of us were already quite loaded before we hit the "Record" button.  That being said, The TARDIS Tavern accepts no responsibility or liability for anything said by any of its guest bartenders.

Look for us on Facebook or send us email at tardistavern@gmail.com.  You can also follow Sean on Twitter via @tardistavern and Chris via @dubbayoo.

  • Episode 128: Origins of the Universe

    1 February 2015 (10:28pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 54 minutes and 1 second

    Direct Podcast Download

Safely deposited back in the tavern after almost a year of traveling abroad, Steve and Sean put their feet up and watch the classic episode "Destiny of the Daleks", also known as "The One Where Romana Regenerates Five Times".

That anonmoly aside, does the remaining 95% of the story stand the test of time?  Is the return of Davros as thrilling as his first appearance?  Were the contractors who built the fiberglass walls on Skaro drunk?  And is it really such as surprise that the Movellans are androids?  (Whoops, spoilers!)  Listen in as we drunkenly discuss "Destiny of the Daleks" followed by a brief preview of Gallifrey One coming up in just a couple weeks.

  • Episode 127: It's Death...not Doom!

    19 January 2015 (4:08pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 11 minutes and 58 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

Back to our regularly scheduled programing, we turn the clock back to the Troughton era, when the Second Doctor fought tirelessly alongside everyone's favorite companions of those years, Jamie and Zoe, and they faced a recognized foe, the Ice Warrior.  Yes, it's a discussion of "The Seeds of Death", often confused with another story from years later "The Seeds of Doom", a fact of the tragedy of the random Doctor Who name generator.

With us on this journey to the moon by rocket is our good friend David Hooie.  We talk a little bit about David's early years with the show and about his podcast, Hoo on Who, before he deposits us via his own TARDIS into a location yet to be disclosed.  Stay tuned....

Look for us on Facebook, send us email vis tardistavern@gmail.com, and follow Sean on Twitter via @tardistavern.  You can also follow David Hooie via @DavidHooie.

    9 December 2014 (1:52am GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 0 minutes and 14 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

We continue our Countdown to Christmas in a familiar animated Colorado hamlet, joining a group of friendly adorable schoolchildren on their way to school.  This, of course, is just set dressing for our discussion of the next holiday special on our list (they're in no particular order), "A Christmas Carol".  Will Dumbledore find redemption in this science fiction twist on the Dickens classic?  Will true love be found at the end?  Will fish fly?  If you don't know the answers to these questions, you probably haven't seen the epiosde...so go watch it before you listen to these drunken fools yammer on about it!

Find out page on Facebook (it's really the latest thing!) or email us at tardistavern@gmail.com.  You can also follow Sean on Twitter via @tardistavern and Steve via @tardistaverntit.

    25 November 2014 (1:56pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 1 minutes and 55 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

Our journey through a wintry wonderland continues with our second installment in our countdown of our selected Christmas specials, "The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe".  (Let me take this time to say that I fully endorse the use of the Oxford comma and judge the BBC for not using it.)

To return a favor from three years ago, the Doctor inserts himself into the lives of a family of three, enticing them to an abandoned mansion with plans of bringing them to a magical alien world on Christmas morning.  And then, of course, everything goes tits up, the magical wonderland is not what it seems, and in true Moffat style, dead people come back to life and everyone lives happily every after.  (Oops, spoilers!)

  • Episode 122: Countdown to Christmas, Part 1

    16 November 2014 (6:49pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 6 minutes and 4 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

Tired of listening to podcasts about Series Eight, Steven Moffat, and Peter Capaldi?  Then wait no more, because we exist to go against the grain of the Doctor Who podcasting community.  It's just a few more weeks until Christmas, so we're going to do things Casey Kasem style until then and dedicate some time to analyzing those episodes which tend to get the short shrift because of their odd placement in the show's schedule, existing in the limbo between two separate seasons and airing at a time when we have other things on our minds.  That's right, we're turning our sights to the Christmas episodes.

We'll begin this journey in 2008, back when RTD was the showrunner, David Tennant was the Doctor, and most people on this side of the pond thought David Morrissey was probably the full name of that weird English pop star.  This episode we'll be talking about "The Next Doctor".

Feel free to email us at tardistavern@gmail.com, "like" us on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter via @tardistavern and @tardistaverntit (even though Sean rarely uses Twitter and Steve says he uses it but really doesn't, and I can say that because he never reads the show notes).

  • Episode 121: Flatline the Moon on the Orient Express of the Night

    2 November 2014 (8:15pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 20 minutes and 26 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

First off, in the most masturbatory way possible, we would like to wish ourselves HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  It was five years ago from the release of this episode that we published our very first one, and our livers are begging us to stop.

But now for more serious business.  This time we’re joined by our friend Chris Spencer whom we had the pleasure of meeting at DFW Whofest last year (that was a year ago, wow!) to discuss most of the second half of Series Eight, from “Kill the Moon” to “In the Forest of the Night”.  (Yes, we know this is being released the day after “Dark Water” aired, but what do we look like, a real professional podcast that actually does things in a timely manner?)  Also, by the way, we’ve died and gone to hell.

“Like” us on our increasingly popular Facebook page and email us stuff at tardistavern@gmail.com.  You can also follow Sean on Twitter via @tardistavern and Steve via @tardistaverntit.  But don’t hold your breath waiting for us to say anything.

Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 55 minutes and 50 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

Never fear, dear listeners, we are alive and well and have been enjoying Series Eight along with all the rest of you.  However, we’re either just too busy half the time and lazy the other half of the time to record our impressions and bring them to you on a weekly basis, like some of those other podcasts (we won’t mention names, but there’s a ton of them).

We are pleased to bring you, recorded in the back seat of a car driven by a cat, our discussion of Series Eight thus for (sans “Deep Breath” and “Into the Dalek”, which were covered previously).  Enjoy!

Track us down on our very popular Facebook group, email us stuff at tardistavern@gmail.com and follow us on Twitter when we feel like tweeting at @tardistavern and @tardistaverntit (we’ll let you guess which is Sean and which is Steve).

We’ve pretty much run the gamut of the McCoy era, so it’s about time we got to “Remembrance of the Daleks”, with our friend Phil Birkett of the Braving Babylon 5 podcast.

This episode is so long, we actually had to trim our discussion about “Robot of Sherwood”, but we get plenty of discussion about “Remembrance” and “Into the Dalek” and even squeeze in a couple short interviews of Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman as conducted by our roving reporter, Andre Tessier.

    12 September 2014 (12:42am GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 2 hours, 1 minutes and 9 seconds

We've pretty much run the gamut of the McCoy era, so it's about time we got to "Remembrance of the Daleks", with our friend Phil Birkett of the Braving Babylon 5 podcast.

This episode is so long, we actually had to trim our discussion about "Robot of Sherwood", but we get plenty of discussion about "Remembrance" and "Into the Dalek" and even squeeze in a couple short interviews of Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman as conducted by our roving reporter, Andre Tessier.

  • Episode 118: Take a Deep Breath

    24 August 2014 (3:22pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 27 minutes and 43 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

Our heroes took a break from their bizarre journey through time and space to spend some quiet, safe time in Austin, Texas, where they were invited to attend a “live” viewing of “Deep Breath” via the local Doctor Who meetup group.

It is therefore with great pleasure that we present our short discussion of “Deep Breath” in front of a “live studio audience”.  (Apologies for the slightly sucky audio quality; we were unable to control some of the dynamics in this enormous room.)

Special thanks to Bill Scheel and Marvin of the DFW 8787 chapter of Pflugerville, Texas for permitting us to do this!

Remember to catch us on Facebook, email us stuff at tardistavern@gmail.com, and follow us on Twitter via @tardistavern!

Today is Sean's Liver 40(mumble mumble)something birthday.  I'm totally shocked that it has made it this far.  So I raise a glass of Three Olives Bubble Gum vodka to my dear friend's liver and salute its endurance and ability to take so much punishment!  Please feel free to send Sean's Liver Happy Birthday wishes to the Facebook account or email it with congratulations to tardistavern@gamil.com.

  • Episode 117: Daleks with a Chaser

    16 August 2014 (6:13pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 26 minutes and 9 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

Every now and then one must turn one’s sights away from the brilliant (as in “Pyramids of Mars”) and the ridiculous (I’m looking at you, “Mindwarp”) and focus on something that’s just plain fun.  With that, we sit down in a dark, wet alley with our good friend Josh Zimon of The Memory Cheats and A Mostly Harmless Cutaway to discuss “The Chase”, featuring the First Doctor, Ian, Barbara, and Vicki.

Whilst grappling with feral cats and diving in dumpsters, will we conclude that “The Chase” is an underrated gem…or does it deserve to go down in history as one of the most craptastic pieces of television ever produced?  Listen and find out!

Be sure to look for us on Facebook (we’re quite popular there) or email us feedback at tardistavern@gmail.com.  You can also follow Sean on Twitter via @tardistavern, Steve via @tardistaverntit, and Josh via @whomejz.

Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 6 minutes and 56 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

Having killed yet another guest host, the gentlemen escape to the streets of New York City, where they are rescued by a willing (and oddly familiar) cab driver.

Since Episode 115 was about “The Enemy of the World”, it seemed fitting to start a pattern, so we set our sights on “The End of the World”, featuring the Ninth Doctor and Rose.  Was it as good as a giant moisturizer?  Or did it leave us feeling dried out and flappy?  Listen in and find out!

[Insert gratuitous Facebook, email, and Twitter references here: tardistavern@gmail.com, @tardistavern and @tardistaverntit.

With the blood of yet another guest host on their hands, our brave hosts seek refuge at an all too familiar restaurant and exchange witter banter about nothing.  After that's done, they focus their attention on the Second Doctor romp "The Enemy of the World", in which Patrick Troughton dons black face and a questionable accent.  Order a big salad, be the master of your domain, and listen in as they talk about whether this is a brilliant gem of a story or one better left undiscovered.

Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 3 minutes and 37 seconds

We awaken from our short visit in purgatory in the nursing embrace of Andre Tessier of L.I. Who.  Sean and Steve are off the island and in the safety of civilization, but will they survive the emergency room and the D.T’s without a drop of alcohol in sight?

To keep our minds at ease, we discuss the epic Sixth Doctor and Peri story “Mindwarp”, as you do.  Is it Syltastic?  Or a disgrace to 1980’s “Doctor Who”?  Grab some marsh minnows to munch on and listen in.

In this very special episode, we are joined by a special guest, nobody, from no podcast whatsoever as we escape to the world between our own and the one beyond.  Are we dead?  Or is this merely a fiction?

Speaking of things that seem like one thing but are totally not, we talk about “The Vampires in Venice”, and get lost in a lot of bunny trails along the way?  Will we cast this story into the depths as food for our spawn?  Or embrace the dark side?

After leaving behind the alien spacecraft (and another dead podcaster), our heroes find themselves dining at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe.  The Dish of the Day is none other than JB Anderton of the Who 37 podcast, and he turns out to be rather tasty.

The time is ripe to talk about the Fifth Doctor once again, so we turn our sights to Peter Davison’s first filmed portrayal of the Doctor, “Four to Doomsday”.  Will we be persuaded to see enlightenment in this story?  Or is just a smear of green picked with pieces of Adric’s yellow tunic.  Relax, pass the sodium chloride, and listen in!

Having killed off no less than three podcasters on their quest, Sean and Steve jump from the flying pan into the fire as they are rescued by an Unidentified Flying Object.  Once aboard, they meet first-time guest Warren of Radio Free Skaro.  What better way to pass the time than to excise our opinions regarding nerdery in general and discuss the infamous story “The Happiness Patrol”.  It’s bilerific!

When we last saw them, our heroes had been rescued by a tribe of Amazon women and then found refuge amongst the packages being delivered to the States.  Will their new form of transport deliver them to safety?  Or is this rescue plan nothing more than a Trojan horse?

We are joined by our perennial guest Josh Zimon of A Mostly Harmless Cutaway, The Memory Cheats, and Prognosis Negative to turn the clock back to 1971, when a certain Third Doctor was exiled to our planet and fought invading aliens with the help of UNIT.  This time around we talk “The Daemons”.  Is it worthy of its reputation?  Will this be the one that finally transforms Steve into a Pertwee fan?  Listen and find out!
