Radio Free Skaro
- Description:
- Radio Free Skaro is possibly the most popular, most prolific and charmingly irreverent (but never irrelevant) Doctor Who podcast around. Since August 2006, hosts Warren (in Vancouver, BC) and Steven (in Edmonton, AB) have provided listeners with their brand of amusing Doctor Who praise and punishment. A year later, Chris (in Amherst, NS) was added to the team, and The Three Who Rule were born. Recommended by Doctor Who Magazine, Radio Free Skaro provides an entertaining and diverting listen for the diehard or casual Doctor Who fan. New episodes usually appear on Sundays, following a loose magazine format of the three hosts discussing the news and events of the past week in the worlds of Doctor Who, Torchwood, and the Sarah Jane Adventures. They have also recorded special commentary podcasts for classic series and new series episodes of Doctor Who along with interviews of some of the brightest of the Doctor Who luminaries. Radio Free Skaro is also the official podcast of Gallifrey One, the world's largest and longest-running annual Doctor Who convention.

Radio Free Skaro #30 - Defeat of the Echo People
Episode Duration: 0 minutes and 0 secondsAfter getting beaten soundly by the Internet gods on both episodes 29 and the first take of episode 30 of Radio Free Skaro, we finally had a bit of luck and were able to get a decent(ish) sounding recording out of our respective compurobots. We covered Smith and Jones, the Shakespeare Code, and veered al over the conversational map to parts unknown, as would any two jaunty fellows faced with take 3 of a podcast. These are the lengths we'll go to for you, dear listeners! Enjoy!

Radio Free Skaro #29 - Smith and Jones
Episode Duration: 0 minutes and 0 secondsFor the first time in the history of the podcast (other than the Runaway Bride), we've got a new episode of honest to goodness Doctor Who to talk about. Smith and Jones, the first episode in Who's third season, premiered on Saturday night in England and aired shortly thereafter on computer screens throughout North America and the rest of the world. We lay down our thoughts on the show (hint: we liked it), new companion Martha Jones, various bits of ancillary promotion for the show, and our rampant speculation as to the nature of upcoming episodes, based on the tin fragments of scenes we've been spoon-fed thus far. And there's 12 more episodes to go! Huzzah!

Radio Free Skaro #28 - Eccleston part the second
Episode Duration: 0 minutes and 0 secondsWe end our retrospective with the denouement of Eccleston's TARDIS tenure, and wax lyrical on the highlights (Father's Day, Boom Town, Parting of the Ways) and lowlights Bad Wolf...maybe?), as well as covering a bit of news, the building tension over the impending premiere of Season 3 this Saturday, and making you all suffer through sporadic coughing by Warren. Next up: Smith and Jones!

Radio Free Skaro #27 - Eccleston's Era, part the first
Episode Duration: 0 minutes and 0 secondsAfter a week's delay due to illness on the part of both myself and Steven, we're back in fighting form with the first part of a retrospective of Christopher Eccleston's lone season as the good Doctor. His reign was the beginning of Who's new era, and we ponder our anticipation prior to the premiere of "Rose," how things have changed for the series as we hurtle towards the premiere of Season 3 (12 days, w00t w00t!, and the usual digressions and balderdash, including a taunting of Podshock and flaunting of our (quite) tenuous connection to the writer of "Dalek."

Radio Free Skaro #26 - the dark time
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 50 minutes and 1 secondIt was inevitable that we would have to cover the ill-fated (and not very good) Doctor Who TV movie from the mid '90's, but Steven and Warren plunged forward with remarkable aplomb and even cheeky jauntiness as we examined the good, bad and...well, who are we kidding here, mostly bad aspects of the film. We also branch off into many a tangent, which I'm sure will provoke much debate, scolding and commentary on freyburg.com.

Radio Free Skaro #25 - the downward spiral
Episode Duration: 0 minutes and 0 secondsMy erstwhile co-host Steven will disagree with me, but I think Sylvester McCoy's era was the low ebb of the classic series before it triumpantly retuned decades later. Join us as we argue, cajole, and fail to convince each other that the seventh Doctor's adventures were a bold new step for the show, or a pile of unwatchable junk.

Radio Free Skaro #62 - Brushes with Greatness
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 59 minutes and 46 secondsThe Third Guy had a first rate week, and he recounts to both Warren and Steven (and you, dear listeners) how he met Doctor Who scribe Steven Moffat, Sylvester McCoy, Sophie Aldred, superfan Ian Levine, and many many others in his ongoing adventures in the UK. We also have some bits of news and commentary, speculation about the upcoming Christmas special, and the usual tomfoolery and nonsense. All this and there isn't even anything Who related on the air...except us, of course.

Radio Free Skaro #61 - Billie's back?!?
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 51 minutes and 38 secondsThe biggest news by far this week was the impending return of Billie Piper in Series Four, a development that has us scratching our heads and debating at great length as to its cosmic significance. That, and the usual yandering on about things Who (of which there was otherwise sparse pickings this week) signify yet another episode of Radio Free Skaro for your listening pleasure.

Radio Free Skaro #60 - Milestones and Memorials
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 47 minutes and 32 secondsThe 44th anniversary of Doctor Who was marked by two sad occasions with the passing Peter Haining, the author of Doctor Who: A Celebration (the bible of the show in our formative years), and Verity Lambert, the co-creator of the program. But it wasn't all doom and gloom, as we delved into how we celebrated the show's birthday, the conclusion of the first season of the Sarah Jane Adventures, and other bits and pieces. Enjoy!

Radio Free Skaro #58 - Live from Edmonton (well, sorta)!
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 57 minutes and 59 secondsYes, for only the second time in Radio Free Skaro history, two of the hosts of the show were in the same place at the same time, huddled around a single computer in Edmonton. Of course, with the inclusion of the Third Guy, we still used the invisible tethers of the Internet to connect to London, and those tethers eventually snapped, leaving him relaying his messages to us via telegraph and carrier pigeon for the final minutes of the show. But despite the technical difficulties of both this week and last, we pressed on, bringing you a bumper crop of news, sarcasm and a few selections from the Series 3 soundtrack for your listening pleasure.

Radio Free Skaro #57 - Meanderings and Miscellany
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 48 minutes and 27 secondsAnother grab-bag episode of diversions, insults and tomfoolery for the Radio Free Skaro crew, as Chris reports in from London on the various Who goings-on from the past week (the biggest being the return of Peter Davison for the Children in Need special in a few short weeks) and all three contribute their opinions and insights to all things Who. And plenty more besides, including insulting straight white males, somehow working stories of the making of SCTV in the mix, and generally shooting their mouths off. Enjoy!

Radio Free Skaro #56 - The Knife of Jealousy
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 42 minutes and 43 secondsWhat started as a grab bag of factoids and bon mots degenerated into repeated threats upon the Third Guy's person as we came to grips the full force of our jealousy at his new home of London, England. Along the way we discussed much news, reviewed the newest Sarah Jane Adventure, and tried to figure out if the rumours of Peter Davison donning his old costume and joining with David Tennant for the upcoming Children in Need special were in fact true, only to have the BBC confirm it mere moments after our podcast. Still, jaunty banter and death threats for all.

Radio Free Skaro #55 - Last of the Time Snores
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 22 minutes and 33 secondsOur last commentary episode also marks a first, in that the Third Guy called in from London with tales of errant police boxes, playbills aplenty and dodgy internet connectivity. Oh yeah, and we commented on Last of the Time Lords, and were none too kind to it, sending it to bed without diner and making it think long and hard about what it had done.

Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 2 minutes and 4 secondsA high watermark for both the classic and new series, Utopia is an hour of top-rate Who, and the Three comment on it mightily, including some off-color joking about by Warren (Mr. Jacobi, the remark was meant as a joke, so please call off those lawyers, there's a good fellow.) Listen to us gush over Utopia...and oh yeah, a bit or two of news might get covered as well.

Radio Free Skaro #51 - the Podcast of Blood
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 58 minutes and 54 secondsDespite Chris (the "Third Guy") being set upon by some sort of throat ailment, the RFS crew set forth and valiantly commentated on "The Family of Blood," the second part of Paul Cornell's season 3 magnum opus and a corking bit of Who into the bargain. We also miraculously rescued 14 minutes of news from the doldrums of between-season uneventfulness.
