We’ve a special guest on this week’s Doctor Who podKast in the shape of Gareth Kavanagh, who joins us for a full hour (and the rest) of news discussion and fanzine sparring.

As well as covering Steven Moffat’s recent comments at the Hay Festival, Christian Cawley, James McLean and Brian Terranova also quiz Gareth on this thoughts about the possibility of Doctor Who ending back in 2008, the recent attempt to shift a 16mm film of The Wheel in Space part 3 on eBay and there’s even time to have a chat about the amazing Doctor Who/Rocky Horror Show mashup by The Hillywood Show, which if you haven’t seen yet should be clicked immediately in the shownotes below.

After that, we still managed to squeeze in a little preview about Vworp Vworp! issue 3 (which features an interview with renowned comic book author Alan Moore), which is still in production, and Gareth had some interesting questions for Christian and James about Kasterborous Magazine 2, which is out now.

And in the news this week, Doctor Who comes to Retro TV in the USA, a piece of series 8 casting news that has both Paul and Phil scratching their heads and in Omega's Tat Corner Steven Moffat lures you into buying tat with his come to bed eyes!

It's been too long since we all sat around and mused about our second favorite show (after Mister Rogers, of course), so we decided to record the latest breaking news. Unfortunately, we are posting this about a week late, so it is just news and one flat out inaccuracy (80% wrong). There are at least three spoilers about what we talk about on this page.

Kiyan and Dylan watched the only serial not to star the Doctor or any of his companions. It was also the only one episode serial in the classic series. As a result, Kiyan and Dylan go on a large Dalek timeline tangent in the middle of explaining the episode. It’s seems like so vile a sin that we’ve done 40 episodes without ever reading a book by Kate Orman, so this month we do just that: it’s the Virgin New Adventure The Room with No Doors featuring the Seventh Doctor and Chris.  From the back cover:

‘Dear Doctor,’ wrote Chris, ‘I give up.’

Swordplay, samurai, magic, aliens, adventure, excitement…Who needs them?

The Doctor and Chris travel to sixteenth-century Japan, a country gripped by civil war as feudal lords vie for control.  Anything could tip the balance of power.  So when a god falls out of the sky, everyone wants it.

As villagers are healed and crops grow far too fast, the Doctor and Chris try to find the secret of the miracles – before two rival armies can start a war over who owns the god.

Chris soon finds himself alone – except for an alien slaver, a time-traveling Victorian inventor, a gang of demons, an old friend with suspicious motives, a village full of innocent bystanders, and several thousand samurai.

Without the Doctor, someone has to take up the challenge of adventure and stop the god falling into the wrong hands.  Someone has to be a hero – but Chris isn’t sure he wants to be a hero any more.

Orman has written just over a dozen novels for the different ranges, including one for Telos Publishing and another in Virgin’s series of Benny Summerfield novels.  It’s notable that she became the first female writer in the series with the debut of The Left-Handed Hummingbird.
