Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastAnd it’s time for the end of Season 9 of Doctor Who, and so Brendan, Richard and Nathan explore the weighty themes of colonialism and utter nonsense, as we discuss The Mutants and The Time Monster. Simmer down, Stu!
Buy the stories!
The Mutants was released on DVD in 2011. (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
The Time Monster was relesed in the US in 2010 (Amazon US). In the UK and Australia, it was only released as part of the Myths and Legends Box Set, which also includes the rightfully unloved Underworld and The Horns of Nimon, which I secretly quite like. Shut up. (Amazon UK)
The Mutants
The Marshal of Solos is eerily reminiscent of everyone’s favourite wartime reactionary cartoon character, Colonel Blimp.
We haven’t mentioned this for a while, so I guess it’s time for About Time by Tat Wood. His Pertwee volume is in its second edition, with heaps more information, and, sadly, heaps less Lawrence Miles. (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
Fans of the glowy rainbow cave on Solos will also enjoy William Blake’s watercolours. Fans of William Blake’s watercolours will also enjoy Elizabeth Sandifer’s crazy Blakean review of The Three Doctors.
The Time Lords’ box is eerily reminiscent of Nathan and Richard’s beloved childhood toy, the wonderfully-named Tupperware Shape-O-Ball.
And, of course, the question on everyone’s lips: Why didn’t the Eagles just drop the One Ring into Mount Doom?
The Time Monster
In his conversation with Jo in episode 6, Pertwee shamelessly plagiarises the Buddha’s Flower Sermon.
Princess Peach becomes the hero in Super Princess Peach, overcoming her enemies with the power of her womanly emotions. Her tiresome habit of being kidnapped so that she can be rescued by Mario is deconstructed in Tropes vs Women in Video Games, Damsel in Distress (Part 1).
Cat People (1942) is an early horror film directed by Jacques Tourneur. You can watch the scary stalking scene mentioned by Brendan here. You can watch the entire film here, and its sequel, The Curse of the Cat People (1944), here.
Fans of the new TARDIS console room will enjoy redirecorating their houses with furtinure designs by Cappellini and Luigi Colani.
Picks of the Week!
Nathan
Sandifer’s final TARDIS Eruditorum entry on Silence in the Library takes the form of a 100,000 word history of Doctor Who. Brilliant.
Richard
The Curse of Peladon novelisation is out of print, and it’s not available as an ebook either. (And why on Earth not?) However, the audiobook is available, narrated by David Troughton. (Audible US) (Audible UK)
Brendan
Reeltime Pictures has rebranded, and it is now selling its video back catalogue as Time Travel TV. Mythmakers #73, which is a 45-minute interview with Robert Sloman can be found here.
We have a competition!
If you would like to win a Target novelisation from our personal collection, just write a comment on our website underneath the post for this episode. We’ll be giving away three books every time we reach the end of a season.

Brendan is on Twitter as @brandybongos, Todd is @toddbeilby and Nathan is @nathanbottomley. Richard is only available in real life. You can follow the podcast on Twitter as @FTEpodcast.

DIDDLY DUM PODCAST 030 - Room One-er-One
Diddly Dum PodcastThe Four Faces of Delusion become Five as the Diddly Dumbers are joined by JR Southall of the Blue Box Podcast. Our heroes have been summoned urgently to The Diddly Dum Whoseum by a false alarm so they take the opportunity to visit the dreaded Room 1-er-1 to debate which Doctor Who related things deserve to be consigned to oblivion.
Along the way, Matt regales us with tales of his visit to the "Day of the Doctors" convention, Michael Grade's character flaws are laid bare by his milkman, we revisit the worst disasters from the history of Blue Peter and reveal the role played by The Governess (from TV quiz show The Chase) in the junking of Doctor Who archive tapes. Finally, Mr Southall's outrageously controversial choice of item for Room 1-er-1 results in him following the road taken by Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego - but less successfully.

Big Blue Box Podcast - Episode 35
The Doctor Who Big Blue Box PodcastHappy 10th Birthday Doctor Who! What a cool way to celebrate your birthdays eh? A 50th followed by a 10th! Welcome inside the Tardis for our anniversary show not just to celebrate 10 years of new Who on our screens but the 1 year anniversary of the podcast. We recap on some of the last few years on new Who and the podcast, some good news stories then our review of Rose. One lucky listener also gets to find out if they've won our huge giveaway. A lot to get through so, as 9 would say - Run!
[powerpress]
The News
The Horror Channel has picked up an award for best Design - General Image Programme Design Package at the PromaxBDA Europe Awards 2015. We've mentioned this cool design on the show recently and we're thrilled this has scooped an award. It's also great that more people get to see it as it's now on Freeview (channel 70) so go and check out lots of classic Who!
Doctor Who: Legacy, the people behind the awesome skill based mobile game, have brought out a new adventure called Bigger on the Inside and it looks great in all its 8-bit wonder. To access the new adventure, head to the Specials tab within the Legacy game. With nearly 2 million downloads under it's belt there's never been a better time to get into this very addictive Who game.
More awards for the show! This time it's bagged two at the Cardiff Life awards for Best in Leisure and Tourism (The Doctor Who Experience) and Best Creative in the City (Cardiff based special effects company Real SFX). More shiny things to put on the shelf.
"Rose" Review
It wouldn't be a fitting 10th anniversary show without revisiting the episode that brought long-time fans back into new yet familiar adventures whilst also starting the cycle all over again for a new generation. We talk trough the pressure on Russell T Davies, Julie Gardner, Chris Eccleston and Billie Piper. We laugh at Clive, the burping bin and Jackie Tyler's seduction tactics. Overall, we celebrate this important episode that paved the way for new Who since.
Thank you for joining us for episode 35 and also for sticking with us in our first year. We would like to thank ALL OF OUR LISTENERS who have followed us, commented on our posts and tweets, liked us, agreed with us, disagreed with us and generally interacted in any way shape or form. It's been a wonderful ride for Who fans over the last 10 years and it's been a privilege to have you guys listen for a small portion of that. We honestly do appreciate all your feedback and here's not only to another year inside the Big Blue Box Podcast but another 10 years of Who on our screens. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Until next time - Allons-y!

2MTL 373: "The Girl in the Fireplace" Throwback Review
Two-minute Time Lord"The Girl in the Fireplace" is a glimpse into the future: Steven Moffat's second Doctor Who story pretty much establishes the format that the show will follow when he takes over as showrunner and casts Smith, Gillan and Darvill. Plus, we revisit a 2MTL topic from 2009 and marvel at the entire cast's relational flexibility, and talk about the other John Byrne.

Tim's Take On...Has it really been ten years? Yes, it’s time to mark an important anniversary, ten years of new who with a commentary and some thoughts about Doctor Who:Rose, also this week a short report from The Institute of Astronomy’s Science Week event which featured local TARDIS builder Nath Smith and his newly finished New Series TARDIS. Doctor Whooch // Episode 051 // Bacon Hipster
Doctor WhoochIn which we bacon bacon bacon bacon bacon.
This week, we watch The Three Doctors, and finally check in with The Curse of the Fatal Death - and we have various opinions that we can't quite remember. Because: alcohol! But more importantly, we go off the rails all the time, talking about various meat liquors and Clone High, and all sorts of various shenanigans. It's a good time. Also: we've done more than 50 episodes. That is crazy.
Outro music is a cover of "Anaconda" by Scott Bradlee & Postmodern Jukebox

MUTTER'S SPIRAL Podcast 90 - ROSE & 10 years of new WHO!
Mutter's Spiral PodcastMarch 26, 2005 - DOCTOR WHO returned to television screens and met ROSE TYLER.
Today, TEN YEARS later, we celebrate that return by discussing "ROSE", the premiere episode of the return! This podcast was recorded in 2010 (#16 overall), but it's not in circulation currently, so we thought we'd repost it (also, largely due to John being ill and unable to record) - we not only talk about the episode itself, but where WHO was at the time, and also how Rose and the return brought John and me together as friends. We hope you'll enjoy this! Just anytime we say "five years", mentally say to yourself "Ten years". :)
TEN YEARS. FANTASTIC.
PS - Fully new episodes coming very soon - first up: MIDNIGHT with guest Kelly Connolly (@TheTVMouse)
