Doctor Who - Ep169: Merry Christmas Who Fans
The Doctor Who Big Blue Box Podcast
Hey Who fans and welcome to episode 169. It's a solo Garry outing for our last show this year so without further ado... Garry is flying solo this week as Adam has already departed for his Christmas travels and it's also a different format than usual, partly due to no decent news or merch at the time of recording. So on this week's show: What has Garry been up to, the year in review for Doctor Who in general and the podcast, Q&A and plans for 2018. As it's the last show of 2017 I'd like to get soppy if I may and say that this year has been another brilliant year for us and that's all down to you. It would be a pretty rubbish show if we didn't hear back from you or converse with you on the interwebs about Who. Your listenership and interaction, whether it's saying hi on Twitter, sending us pics of your merch and conventions or sending in reviews, is what keeps us coming back every week. So for that I'd like to say a massive thank you, you lot are awesome and we have such a great community. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I hope you all have a great Christmas and a very Happy New Year. Enjoy Twice Upon a Time and we'll see you on the flip flop. Allons-y!

The Companion Conundrum
Gallifrey Public Radio - A Doctor Who Podcast“Thank you for being a friend / Traveled down the road and back again / Your heart is true / You’re a pal and a confidant.” The English language has over fifty viable synonyms for a friend, but in the realm of the Doctor Who fandom, the term “companion” is sacred. It is a title bestowed upon those who have been given a special place in the pantheon, a category of characters for whom books are written, songs are sung […]

100: The War Games
The Krynoid Podcast"You have returned to us, Doctor. Your travels are over."
But thankfully not forever. It was, indeed, a long way from being all over.
So Jim and Martin stagger to their century milestone with their biggest story yet, The War Games.
It's an epic tale of trials, tribulations, heavily corrected (and impaired) vision, and a Very. Stupid. Voice.
The Doctor plays with fridge magnets, Jamie plays the fool, Zoe plays Villa like a violin and the War Lord plays with his real live toy soldiers - and gets a Paddington stare for his trouble.
Romans gawp and mince, wigs wander almost as far as the accents, and the scenery is chewed up, gargled and spat out - even when it's as wobbly as a Quark under enemy fire.
So do Jim and Martin think this is a worthy end for a very worthy Doctor? Or was it ten parts of terrible tedium?
Listen in to find out.

The Underwater Menace 3-4
Lazy Doctor WhoGG (3-4)
Steven and Erika finish off what is one of the weirdest stories in the history of Doctor Who. Erika isn’t quite sure what she just saw or if she liked it overall, but man oh man, what a ride!
When we started this podcast, some people worried we’d hit the recons in the 1st and 2nd Doctors’ eras, get demoralized, and give up. I think we have proved that’s not the case. NOTHING IN THE WORLD CAN STOP US NOW!
Host Erika Ensign and Steven Schapansky

52: The Resurrection of the Daleks (Classic Doctor Who Review)
The Old Doctor Who ShowShow notes: We mention the release of Eric's book, so here's a link if you want to buy Eric's book. You should buy Eric's book. http://www.gregorysuicide.com/
Here's that movie Eric can't think of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eiv9Bhbsxfk
Oh, and after listening to the edit of this I realized that it's not entirely clear that we do understand that the Daleks are replacing the Doctor and his companions with replicants in order to execute members of the high council. What doesn't make sense is the other plot about Davros and the Movellan death virus also being located in the same place as the time corridor trap. Pick a plotline! --Eric

Traveling the Vortex“The future foretold, the past explained, the present apologised for.”
In this week’s episode, we return to the classic TV series with a Fourth Doctor and Romana II adventure. We review The Creature from the Pit. Find out what we think of this often maligned story.
Also, we look at some news, including wardrobe talk, but perhaps, not the kind you are thinking.

TDP 731: Main Range 232 - Static #DoctorWho from @BigFinish
Tin Dog Podcast@TinDogPodcast reviews @BigFinish #DoctorWho 233. STATIC "A brilliant addition to a superb run of 6th Doctor Stories, I dont say this lightly but I think it's better than Chimes Of Midnight."@TinDogPodcast Synopsis Deep in the heart of nowhere, near a place called Abbey Marston, there's a caravan site. The perfect place to get away from it all. Close by, there's a stone circle they used for human sacrifice in olden times. A little further afield, there's an old RAF research station, where they did hushhush things in the War. There's only one rule: the use of radios, cassette recorders and portable televisions is strictly forbidden. People come here to get away from it all, you see. No-one wants to hear the noise. No-one wants to hear the voices in the static... No-one wants to hear the ghosts. Written By: Jonathan Morris Directed By: Jamie Anderson Cast Colin Baker (The Doctor), Lisa Greenwood (Flip Jackson), Miranda Raison (Mrs Constance Clarke), Scott Chambers (Andy Clover / Sergeant Webster), Pippa Nixon(Joanna Nash), Jo Woodcock (Susannah Nash), David Graham (Percy Till), Brian Protheroe (Captain Hardwick), Chris Dale (Soldiers / Static). Your jewelled sword twinkles as the world rolls by
Who's He?In this episode Phil and Paul plug in their earphones and listen to Sword of Orion from Big Finish. In this story of salvage, smuggling and Cybermen, the pair of them find plenty to enjoy in this very early 8th Doctor audio adventure. But beware, there are spoilers aplenty in this review (it was released in 2001 after all!), so listen at your peril!
And in the news, the air time for Twice Upon a Time is known, another international showing of the Christmas special is announced and series 11 is getting a cinematic makeover!
