Doctor Who: Verity! It's time for the second(?) part of our first hindsight project! Join Deb, Liz, and Tansy as they talk about Doctor Who stories that didn't really work for them the first time around -- and what they remember of those stories. There's a sizable side-trek into Big Finish as well.
Do you have a Who story that didn't hit right for you the first time around? Drop us a tweet or let us know in the comments!
^E

- Tansy
- loves comedian Celia Pacqola's instagram pic in a 13th Doctor costume!
- is delighted to see Verity! with a bunch of super-great podcasts on a list of the 9 Best Doctor Who Podcasts!
- Liz
- enjoyed the virtual con experience with Time Space Virtualizer!
- broke and ordered a Nimon figure from eaglemoss!
- Deb loves all the Doctor Who love on Twitter in the form of watch/tweet-alongs (many of which have been organized by Emily Cook)!

Episode 185: Ghost Light OR Everyone's Going to Java
PodcasticaLIIIIGHT! Yes, this week we review the final 7th Doctor story (that we haven't reviewed yet) with Ghost Light! They certainly tried to pack a ton into a three-episode story. It comes off as a rather bonkers story that's mostly mystery for an episode and a half and then goes properly off the rails as an alien entity grapples with something every Doctor Who fan has to accept: change. And not a moment too soon, amirite? Join us as we stare at the sun with Ghost Light!

The Podcast of Decision III (The DW Show Presents...)
The Doctor Who ShowTime for another edition of the Podcast of Decision, this time featuring Dave, along with sometime Doctor Who Show contributor and co-host; Richard, and the guys from the 42 to Doomsday podcast; Rob and Mark.
If you’re unfamiliar with The Podcast of Decision, in November 2018, Rob and Dave sat down in a hotel room with Todd and Nathan from Flight Through Entirety (and Jodie into Terror), to record a breezy wander through all of Doctor Who via some games Dave devised. Dave called this recording, The Podcast of Decision.
In August 2019 we ran a second installment - coincidentally featuring today's cast - and it received such good feedback, a third edition was always going to happen at some stage. So here it finally is!
We hope you're all safe, staying at home and washing your hands and perhaps content like this can be of some comfort to ward off the dreaded 'cabin fever' during these extraordinary times.

Guest:
297: Jodie’s Hands ft. Keith (The Haunting of Villa Diodati)
Trust Your DoctorOur first brand new guest in like…. ages!
I honestly thought that the name of the group of people in this episode was the Villa Diodati, not the name of the house. So it came as quite a shock when doing research for this episode and I realized it was the name of the place. It should have been obvious in hindsight with the double l but alas. It’s The Haunting of Villa Diodati. written by Maxine Alderton and Chris Chibnall and aired on February 16, 2020.

20:00: They did get married eventually.
28:34: Ok so apparently what happened was that it was mistakenly attributed to Byron but it looks like Byron never pretended it was his.
34:09: Behold the glory of thirteenshands.

Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThis week, Nathan is crushing on that nice Colonel, James is crushing on a cloned replica of himself, and Peter is crushing on that nice young man who runs the local startup cult academy. And all the time, Adam Richard is roaming this suburban street with an axe, looking for cars to attack. It’s the end of the world, as usual: it’s The Poison Sky.
Notes and links
Adam’s TV show Outland (2012) screened on ABC-TV and told the story of five queer science-fiction fans thrown together after the breakup of their local fan group. Adam was co-creator, co-writer and one of the stars of the show. Outland was must-see TV for another small group of queer science fiction fans who would one day grow up to create the podcast Flight Through Entirety.
In March 2020, Catherine Tate returned to Big Finish with Jacqueline King in the Kidnapped! box set, in which Donna teams up with an old school friend to fight aliens in the Doctor’s absence.
Freeman Agyeman has just made her Big Finish début, but not in a Doctor Who story: instead, she’s joining Eve Myles in Torchwood: Dissected, released in February 2020.
As we said last week, Adam writes for the ABC-TV comedy quiz show Hard Quiz, which has been running in Australia since 2017, and is now in its fifth series.
Peter ponders the similarities between Luke Rattigan and convicted fraud Martin Shkreli, who is literally one of the world’s most appalling people.
Picks of the week
James
James wants you to watch Up the Women, a BBC4 sitcom created by Jessica Hynes, starring Hynes, Rebecca Front, Vicki Pepperdine and the Rattigan Academy’s very own Ryan Sampson.
Adam
Adam recommends The Stranger, Netflix’s answer to Broadchurch, produced by Nicola Shindler’s Red Production Company (Years and Years, Cucumber, Queer as Folk).
Peter
Hoping for the Rutans to make a return to Doctor Who, Peter suggests that you should watch Horror of Fang Rock, which we covered in the our delightfully named Episode 50, The Practical Problem with Leaving Someone Alive.
And he’s particularly keen for you to watch Netflix’s Elite, a Spanish teen drama in which attractive young people have sex and occasionally murder someone.
Nathan
Nathan finds depressing parallels between life in 2020 and life in 2060 as depicted in Avenue 5, a new HBO science-fiction comedy series by Armando Ianucci (The Thick of It).
