Bonus Episode: The Life of River Song/Bootstrap thing
Who NewLet’s discuss River’s life. Fasten your seat belts – this will be a bumpy ride.
Spoilers! We’re discussing River Song’s timeline as best we see it. We don’t have any spreadsheets, calculus, or alcohol but we do have aspirin, a sense of humor, and special guest Nate from Temple of Geek.
We’ll cover her birth on Demons’ Run to her afterlife in CAL’s hard drive, while trying to make sense of everything in between. Her early life as Mels where she slowly guided her parents to be together. The later years as both an Archeologist and Doctor. And her life with three regenerations of The Doctor (or is it four?).
Episode order;
-The Almost People (worth mentioning the idea of Gangers) – Amy is pregnant but not with Team Tardis
-A Christmas Carol – Amy and Rory’s honeymoon
-The Big Bang – the wedding of Amy and Rory 2010
-A Good Man Goes to War – Melody born on Demon’s Run, taken to an orphanage with Renfrew
-The Impossible Astronaut – toddler in spacesuit 1969
-Day of the Moon – we see young Melody in the orphanage, first time she kisses the Doctor (POV), she was left in NY and got sick, at the end toddler regenerates, finds her way back to the UK
-Let’s Kill Hitler – Mels in school then regenerates into the River we know, the Doctor gives her the Tardis diary
-Closing Time – put River in the astronaut suit, trained by the Silence to kill the Doctor
-The Wedding of River Song – she can’t kill the Doctor so time gets messed up and everything happens at once, marries the Doctor and learns his name (but he really tells her he faked his own death)
-A Good Man Goes to War (again) – telling Amy and Rory who she is
-The Impossible Astronaut – at the end River wants to study archeology at the Luna University 5123
-The Pandorica Opens – River gets the vortex manipulator from Dorium, gets the Van Gogh painting, and writing the coordinates into a cliff at the dawn of time
-The Big Bang – River appears after the wedding to the Doctor before Amy and Rory get into the Tardis. Gives Amy the diary so she could remember the Doctor back into existence
-The Time of Angels – 51st century, says she has pictures of all your faces
-Flesh and Stone
-The Wedding of River Song (again for the tea chat) – Rivers just left the Byzantium
-The Angels Take Manhattan – she was pardoned from prison because the Doctor erased himself from every record
-The Husbands of River Song – 24 years is 1 night on Dyrilium, she gets the screwdriver
-Silence in the Library – mentions the Byzantium
-Forest of the Dead
-The Name of the Doctor – in a dream conference call with the Paternoster Gang, telling Vastra to coordinates to the Doctor’s tombe-mail us at whonewpodcast@gmail.com

Who's He? Podcast 513 | In a world of persecution that is burning in its greed
Who's He?In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....
Review - The Evil of The Daleks
In this podcast continuing Troughton Month, Phil, Paul and Scott provide their thoughts on the differing novelisations of The Evil of The Daleks, one written by John Peel and the other written by Frazer Hines.
But is this really the best Doctor Who story as was voted for during the shows 30th anniversary year, or is it a long winded story, bloated with too many characters that serve no purpose other than to be Dalek fodder? Listen to find out what they thought as they discuss the differences between the written and visual versions and will Paul wearing no trousers really help matters?

In the Timelash #15 - Si Hart
On the Time Lash"Have we learned nothing from Torchwood?"
Mark is joined by Si Hart, host of The Library of Impossible Things, who submits his five choices for the tinsel tunnel. It's a wide-ranging discussion that often comes back to reminding us what it is to be a child watching Doctor Who.
Under discussion: "Dark" Doctor Who, dodgy tea towels, Tom Baker being all teeth and no curls, the weakest story in season 13, and much more.
Also: Who put Ncuti Gatwa in a hydraulic press? And what has Si got against Prentis Hancock?
You can see the boxed set that Mark and Si are talking about here.

SHOW NOTES
(00:20:04) “Richer Sounds” is a British home entertainment retailer that operates through a chain of 51 stores and online. In November 2013, Julian Richer announced to the press that, upon his death, he would bequeath 100% of the firm to a trust co-owned by employees of the company. In May 2019, Richer, then aged 60, announced that he had transferred ownership to employees by passing 60% of his shares to a trust, as well as separately paying each of his over 500 employees, excluding directors, a thank you bonus of £1,000 for every year of work, a total of about £4 million, as the employees had worked for an average of 8 years each. “Viz” meanwhile is a British adult comic magazine founded in 1979. It parodies British comics of the post-war period, notably The Beano and The Dandy, but with extensive profanity, toilet humour, black comedy, surreal humour and generally sexual or violent storylines. The connection between the two, according to Mark and The Rev, is that Richer Sounds used to sponsor the “Viz” music charts where indie bands used to bribe “Viz” and their position in the charts would be determined by the level of the bribe.
(01:19:22) On the night before the broadcast of “Rose”, Chistopher Eccleston appeared on the “Friday Night With Jonathan Ross” chat show on BBC1. Parts One and Two can be seen here.

TDP 1378 : 1. Planet Krynoid: Nightfall REVIEW
Tin Dog PodcastFor a hundred years, Sunlight has been a beacon of hope shining across a troubled galaxy, an artificial paradise on a frozen world offering safe haven for the super-rich, and employment for even the poorest of labourers. At least, that's what the adverts say. Unfortunately for Governor Robert Hodan, one of his engineers has just discovered a pair of strange-looking pods lodged in a satellite. So Sunlight, that glittering verdant oasis, will never be the same again. Because, as the Doctor knows only too well, on planets where the Krynoid gets established, the vegetation eats the animals... Episode 1.1 Sunlight by Jonathan Morris Episode 1.2 Sunset by Jonathan S Powell Episode 1.3 Darkness by Chris Chapman Please note: the collector’s edition CD box set is strictly limited to 1,000 copies Recorded on: 25 and 29 July and 2 August 2024 Recorded at: The Soundhouse Producer Jonathan S Powell said: "Planet Krynoid is Doctor Who's answer to The Last of Us and The Walking Dead, a heart-stopping vision of society's collapse under the weight of one of television's most terrifying creations: the Krynoid. "The Krynoids themselves are terrifying because they do that great sci-fi thing of inverting the ordinary and making you petrified of pot plants. More than that though, they're a sentient infection utterly antithetical to our existence, for which we are woefully unprepared, which makes them the perfect monster to explore today, half a century on from their debut. "I adore The Seeds of Doom - not just for its B-movie brilliance, but for the creeping feeling it evokes that this time, for the first time, the Doctor really might lose. That's what we've tried to convey in this set, that the gloves are off and nobody is safe." Reece Shearsmith said: "I know a lot of actors on Big Finish’s roster - David Warner was a great friend, and he used to love doing them and would tell me about them: 'Why haven't you done one?' So I was thrilled to be asked to be in this. It's a really huge drama, it feels a proper disaster movie of the 1970s, like The Poseidon Adventure - things just get worse and worse. "It's a thrill to be part of Doctor Who, it's an institution and it feels like you’ve made it as an actor if you're asked to be in this world. Hodan is a particular sort of character that Doctor Who is peppered with a lot of – cowards who have a noble intention but trample on people along the way. I've done one before actually, in Mark Gatiss’s TV episode Sleep No More. It’s a nice thing to play, because it's a very conflicted part." Paul McGann added: "Doctor Who’s quite horrible, isn't it, really? When you think about it, it throws up some proper disgusting horrors. Plants that eat people! "The best monsters work on a really visceral, almost childlike level. The Krynoids are like that. Who wants to be eaten by anything, never mind a huge plant?" Review - The Last Day At Work
In what they are calling Troughton Month, Scott & Phil listened to a second Doctor Short Trips audio story, The Last Day at Work written by Harry Draper and read by Nicholas Briggs. With policeman Bernard Whittam about to retire and the Doctor and Jamie dropping in to his retirement party, can the Doctor explain why Bernard can hear a certain wheezing and groaning noise in his head? But what has Julian Clary and Donaldsons Dairy have to do with anything?
But to kick things off, the lads have a quick chat about the Patrick Troughton era and try to pick their favourite three stories.
And if you want to listen to The Last Day at Work, you can download it for free from the Big Finish website:

Tin Dog PodcastThis title was released in August 2025. It will be exclusively available to buy from the Big Finish website until 31 October 2025, and on general sale after this date. Kevin left the Powell Estate a long time ago. He wasn’t going to be trapped there. But all these years later, he’s back and clearing out his dad’s old flat. At least his neighbours, the Tylers, are still here. But Rose has a strange new man in her life. And this Doctor’s going to show Kevin a world he never knew existed. Unfortunately, something ancient is stirring on the Estate. Perhaps Kevin will be trapped here after all... **Please note: the collector’s edition CDs are strictly limited to 1,500 copies each.**

Radio Free Skaro #1026 - The Stone Tape
Radio Free SkaroDoctor Who has been erased from both HBO Max in the United States and now Prime in Canada, leading the Three Who Rule to speculate on the future of streaming with tangents into Star Trek, the likelihood of Billie Piper actually being the Doctor, spurious yet tantalizing missing episodes hints and nonsense, and Ncuti Gatwa on various chat shows not giving anything away about his time on Doctor Who! But the main event for this episode is of course the first of our four-part Miniscope on Doctor Who director Jamie Magnus Stone, featuring Spyfall, Part One and Praxeus!

Episode 118: Miss Zygon
Something WhoBack for the second half of this Gav-inspired pairing of two Zygon stories: last time's four part 4th Doctor story Terror of the Zygons, paired with this episode's 2015 two part 12th Doctor outing The Zygon Invasion / Inversion from Series 9. We'll decide whether these stories make you feel like lairds or a bunch of suckers. Joining Gav for the discussion are Paul, Giles and Richard.
Please like or share our podcast with people who will enjoy it, so we can build our listener base high for happiness. You can rate us directly on Apple Podcasts or Podchaser.com
Gav's excellent YouTube series Terry Nation Army can be found here: https://youtube.com/user/Dalek6388. Also, next time you're in the North West, check out his new venture - West Kirby Escape Room: The Jurassic Factor westkirbyescaperoom.co.uk
Head over to https://www.bigfinish.com/, where we all love Paul's stories. You can find his latest Companion Chronicle The White Ship here as part of the Families box set: https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/doctor-who-the-companion-chronicles-families-3001
Giles is a published author with many books, primarily related to science and astronomy. check out his work here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/stores/Giles-Sparrow/author/B001IXOESC, also stocked at all good bookshops, and a few bad ones too.
Richard's other podcast "If It's Hurting, It's not Working" is currently on hiatus, but it's a fun and informative look at work - why we work, how we work, and what makes a great job. And also what makes a great workplace, how to turn things round when we're not enjoying our work and, in the end, how we can all make our work better. For all episodes, go to https://ifhurtnotwork.podbean.com/ and https://ifhurtnot.work.
The Something Who logo, which features prominently on all our cover art was designed for us by Bea Garrido. She's a really talented artist, who you can find by following this link: https://beagarridoart.weebly.com/, where you can buy prints of some remarkable paintings of characters from Doctor Who.
The opening music is Three Guitars Mood 2 and, yes, that is Richard playing the ukulele and kazoo on possibly the worst ever version of the Doctor Who theme tune at the end.
