Radio Free Skaro #688 - Muppet Sandbaggers
Radio Free SkaroThere is next to nothing going on in the world of Doctor Who right now, at least not anything the production team wants public, but what we do have is a surfeit of your questions and comments for another edition of Fluid Links! 71. Extraordinary Participation
On the Time LashAs we prepare to say goodbye to the Ponds, Ben and Mark talk about friendship via THE POWER OF THREE and THE SEEDS OF DOOM. In a podcast first, Ben views a bona-fide Doctor Who classic for the very first time, whilst both hosts try to read between the lines to figure out exactly what the hell was going on with Steven Berkoff. Also: Yet another Big Finish pitch, rampant consumerism, a bolshy and bruising Tom Baker, another tribute to the wonderful Elisabeth Sladen and the fall and rise of UNIT in Doctor Who. You can tweet us @OnTheTimeLash or find us on Facebook, and do please leave us a review on iTunes.

Episode 250: The Earth is Flat
Trust Your DoctorIt is.
We need to look inside ourself this week. Like deep inside, to the parts ourselves that we never show to the light. Where the cobwebs are. Where my little spider friend Steve lives, killing any flies that make their way in. Hey Steve, hope you’ve been having a good time in there. Nice cobwebs! It’s Into the Dalek, written by Steven Moffat and Phil Ford and aired on August 30, 2014.
Show-notes:
3:54 According to the Doctor Who Podcast alliance, our total runtime is 16 days, 12 hours, 50 minutes, 42 seconds.
6:41 I meant Evil of the Daleks . The Doctor actually names the Daleks Alpha, Beta, and Omega in this one.
17:25 Check out Zenith, our Blake’s 7 podcast.
21:35 Apparently World of Goo is a video game from like 10 years ago.
31:59 It’s actually only like 10 years old.
41:09 Check out Triple Play, our movie trilogy podcast.

Some Vicars
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastIn this week’s earnest Radio National podcast episode, Nathan, Peter and Todd discuss religion, the concept of Satan, the nature of human evil, and a proposed Marxist reading of the plight of the Ood. Plus, an episode of a children’s science fiction series called The Satan Pit.
Notes and links
We mention a lot of tropes from the Hinchcliffe Era of Doctor Who, and so to brush up on this, you will probably want to listen to New to Who’s recent Hinchcliffe overview.
Further Hinchcliffe tropes are discussed in our episode on Pyramids of Mars, which also features a star turn from Gabriel Woolf as the Devil. Take a listen: it’s Episode 39: He’s Always a Villain.
And still more Hinchcliffe shenanigans abound in our Hand of Fear episode, which is called — fairly appropriately — Not Sufficiently Executed Enough.
And I found the video of that Very Special Episode of The Weakest Link which screened just before the début of Series 3 and starred David Tennant, John Barrowman, Camille Coduri, Noel Clarke and a bunch of guest stars from Series 2. You must watch this.
Picks of the week
Todd
Quite rightly, Todd recommends that you should watch The Creature from the Pit. After that, you should of course listen to our episode on that story, There Shall Be No Fire.
Peter
Peter recommends a satirical science fiction series on YouTube Premium — Weird City.
Nathan
And finally, Nathan recommends the Netflix series Russian Doll, which stars and was co-created by Natasha Lyonne from Orange is the New Black.

DIDDLY DUM PODCAST 115 – Liftshaft of the Daleks
Diddly Dum PodcastThat drone you can hear filling the air is not the Diddly Dummers talking, it’s the sound of the Diddly Dum airship returning our heroic podcasters to The Whoseum where Hayden awaits, eager to pump them vigorously in the debriefing room for tales of the DWAS Capitol IV convention. This podcast episode includes our interviews at Capitol with former Doctor Who Magazine editor, John Freeman (just think of an even better looking Tom Spilsbury), and DWAS Capitol supremo and theatre buff, Tony Jordan (just think of an older Steven Berkoff). Along the way, we disclose the source of Hayden’s jamminess and we play a few rounds of “Who Said What?”.

#115 - Infotextual
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2What do the Metebelis Two make of the last classic Who story ever to be recorded? Is Ghost Light the complex, bewildering puzzle that received fan wisdom would have it, or is it just a rewrite and an episode short of brilliance? The Two speculate on why Nimrod, the Neanderthal butler, could have been a great companion for the Doctor and how dramatising some flashbacks for Ace could strengthen the story's narrative. While David questions how scientifically accurate Marc Platt's explanation of evolution is, Ben suggests the story is more about the misinterpretation of evolutionary theory, or as he calls it the 'fun' type of evolution, than real science. Plus he is quick and ready with plenty of interesting infotext factoids. Toward the end, the Two suggest a visit to Hans Geiger around 1908 would make for a nifty historical episode. Music this episode was composed by Mark Ayres for Ghost Light.
