The Pharos Project Podcast
- Description:
- Guerrilla podcasting in a pseudo New Wave Punk Revivalist old-school photocopied ransom note fanzine stylee. Or a clutch of Whovians getting tanked up and whittering about kids TV when they can get themselves organised. Take your pick.

Pharos Project 44: The Colour For Twubcrawls is Gween
Episode Duration: 31 minutes and 42 secondsNo, before you ask, this is not the Chocolate Turkey special. Turns out there were much better things to do this week.
We does talk of Twubcrawl!
A gathering of Doctor Who fans, that did walk around London, look at filming locations, and dance the dance of the alcohols until we were all chucked out.
For informations on location tours of Doctor Who & other stuff, go to www.britmovietours.com or send begging tweets to @Nelle_Macbeth
If you happen to be the casting director of a provincial theatre, please employ @rod_henderson (has own beard).
-
Pharos Project 43: Where Parrots Dare
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 56 minutes and 6 secondsDodgy Cybermen, Jazz music, Mad Nazis and some of the worst cases of attempted bird murder ever committed to film. Yes, this week the Projecteers take a look at "Silver Nemesis". Aided by "special" guest, Radio Free Skaro's own Chris Burgess, we review Doctor Who's 25th anniversary story.
It's a long one, so no feedback this week.

Pharos Project 42: Shada Lada Ming Mong
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 46 minutes and 25 secondsIt's episode 42, so we thought we'd dig out a bit of Douglas Adams for you. We're dipping our toes into the murky waters of incomplete stories and having a gander at 1979's Shada.
Apologies for the obscene length, but editing it down more would involve actual work. Something we struggle to avoid at all times. To make up for this, we've included a little outtake at the end. Three grown men laughing uncontrollably at a fart that manages to unseat a trilby.
Also included is the usual drunken stumble through the week's news, and the result of our DARDIS competition.

Pharos Project 41: Eduardo is the Warmest Place to Hide
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 37 minutes and 9 secondsHello Ladies and gents. It's time for our most self indulgent podcast so far as we review The Thing.
Paul had sway on this one as it was the anniversary of his birth. So it's Paul's favourite film, intersperced by bits of Paul's favourite tunes. Blame him. For everything. Seeing as we actually had to watch a film before recording this, it's a little bit more drunk than usual. Again, blame Paul.
Enjoy, and please tip your waitress.

This podcast is dedicated to the memory of Hunter. You left footprints on the hearts of our friends.

Pharos Project 40: This is a Fake
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 40 minutes and 33 secondsThis week, we celebrate our 40th episode in style, by cocking it up big time. The 1st 12 minutes are recorded in the iMac's internal mic, so it sounds like we're in a toilet. Sorry and that. Never fear, as we soon sort out the technicals and get stuck in to the story selected for this week from Barry Manilow's bag. The truly wonderful "City of Death".
Compo entries to pharos.project@yahoo.co.uk please. You have 2 weeks (or episode 42, whichever comes 1st) to get them in.

Congrats once again go to David Perry for getting the secret word correct. This week's secret word is "potty".
-
Pharos Project 39: How to Enlarge Your Toad
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 32 minutes and 52 secondsGalltfrey One is over, and the post con blues were made even worse this week by the news of the sad passing of Nicholas Courtney. We therefore decided that we should review a UNIT episode of Doctor Who this week. So we tried to think of the most typical story from that era, one that had everything that you could possibly want from a UNIT episode. Unfortunately, we couldn't download "Terror of the Zygons", quickly enough, so we ended up watching "The Claws of Axos".
Also this week, Paul takes a wander back through his drink addled memories of Gally, Chris pretends to be a smurf and Little Pete levels some disturbing accusations at the episode in question.
Compo entries and feedback should be directed at pharos.project@yahoo.co.uk or, if for some reason you find yourself wanting to make more immediate contact, you can follow us on twitter on @pharosproject.
In honour of the great man himself, this week's secret word is simply "Brig".
-
Pharos Project 38: Kate O'Mara's Throbbing Gland
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 21 minutes and 58 secondsHello all.
We managed to survive the SFX Weekender 2 and now come down with a bump, as we review "Time and the Rani".
Also this week, we talk a little about our time at Pontins Camber Sands, one of us gets excited about the upcoming Gallifrey convention and we announce our new competition with our bestest ever prize.
Thrown in for good measure we have feedback and PWCJFO.
Looking forward to seeing some old friends and making some new ones at Gallifrey. Don't forget the DWPA podcast panel which Paul will be part of.
In Honour of writing duo Pip and Jane Baker, this week's secret word is senile.
-
Pharos Project 37: Green Eggs and Holm
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 40 minutes and 45 secondsIt's time for the Doctor to take a break as we indulge in our first dip into other stuff. As requested by our listeners, we take a look at "Alien".
Also this week, we introduce a new feature (PWCJFO) and provide you with the world premiere of an unseen Ridley bread ad.
Feedback, as always, should be directed at either pharos.project@yahoo.co.uk or @pharosproject on the twits.
Congrats to the Davids Light and Perry for reading last time's tat. This week's secret word is batter.
-
Pharos Project 36: Last of the Summer Whine
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 21 minutes and 39 secondsThis week we invite the Bad Wilf Podcast to join us as we rip into "The End of Time Part One".
We also wade into some strange and wonderful feedback and announce the winner of our competition.
Unfortunately, everything that could have gone wrong with the recording of the review, actually did. This resulted in a bugger of an edit and a drop in audio quality for the final 10 minutes.
Congratulations to "friend of the show", David Perry, who continues to be the only person that reads this tosh.
Send feedback to pharos.project@yahoo.co.uk or @pharosproject on the twits.
Tune in to Bad Wilf for the review of Part Two. They can be found on iTunes or at badwilf.co.uk
This weeks secret word is Pontefract.
-
Pharos Project 35: Oinky McTrotters' Big Day Out
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 8 minutes and 51 secondsIt's a little windy in the Pharos studio/spare bedroom this week, as the projecteers look at the fart-fest that is "Aliens of London".
Please keep the feedback coming in. We need your offerings for Manilow's bag and any thoughts on films or series you would like us to cover.
Also, our competition to win a Doctor Who 2011 annual is still open. Entries and feedback should be directed at pharos.project@yahoo.co.uk or @pharosproject on the twits.
Lastly, in what we believe to be a podcast first, we proudly present LIVE CAT SHEARING!
This week's secret word is Harris.
-
Pharos Project 34: Captain Stabley Does Some Homework
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 2 minutes and 40 secondsThis week the Projecteers take on the abomination that is Time-Flight.
You know, the one with the concordes, the Master dressed as a Chinese Demis Roussos impersonator and the best employee British Airways never had, Captain Stapley.
Also, there's a look at Biggles, Tina Turner makes an appearance in the Pleasure Dome and Little Pete proves that he has turd magnets for hands as he pulls another shocker from Manilow's bag.
To enter the competition, please send answers to the question (what's in Paul's pocket) to pharos.project@yahoo.co.uk
As we recorded this before episode 33 was released, the secret word will stay the same this time.
-
Pharos Project 33: We're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 39 minutes and 11 secondsThis week, the Projecteers spat Advocat into a roaring fire, argued with family and indulged in that other fine festive tradition that calls itself the Doctor Who Christmas Special.
Jenkins did sing, the Doctor did marry, Gambon did soften and Amy and Rory showed us their sex clothes. Actually, how would you role play between a Centurion and a Police Woman? Bit of an odd combo that. Chris and Little Pete usually do it as Ronald Mcdonald and Hamburglar, a more sensible choice.
Anyway...
Thanks to Terri Silvers and "friend of the show", David Perry for getting the secret word (this week, chutney) correct.
Happy New Year!!!
-
Pharos Project 32: Tingoes Ate My Baby
Episode Duration: 50 minutes and 38 secondsIt's the Pharos Project Christmas booze up!
This week,
We prove once and for all that some dogs are indeed only for Christmas as we look at 1st episode of the new K-9 series.
There are present givings, part poppers and cracker pullings and Barry Manilow delivers some fun Pharos Project facts.
Congratulations to Chris from Radio Free Skaro and "friend of the show", David Perry for being the only people to get last time's secret word correct. This time, please include the word "dangleberry" in any feedback.
P.S. A dog is not really just for Christmas and anyone found to be abandoning animals will have us to answer to.
-
Pharos Project 31: Badgers? We Don't Need No Stinking Badgers
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 42 minutes and 46 secondsWe're back!
Once more the Projecteers have gathered to get drunk, take the piss out of each other and sometimes talk about Doctor Who.
This week we get stuck into "The Monster of Peladon", draw another DVD from Manilow's bag, have a load of feedback to read and, in a curious move, discuss this week's Who related episode of Corrie.
We're using a new mike for this show and the audio is a little hissy. This is because we're idiots and had the gain up too high, so apologies for that. Why am i telling you this anyway? Nobody actually reads this guff. Prove me wrong, if you send some feedback (pharos.project@yahoo.co.uk) include the word "clinker" somewhere in the email.
-
Pharos Project 30: When There's no More Room in Hull...
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 21 minutes and 0 secondsIt's time for some good nu Who as we tackle "The Unquiet Dead".
We would love to have some more feedback at pharos.project@yahoo.co.uk
Includes a promo for the Tin Dog podcast, listen to it, its un-poo.
-
Pharos Project 29: In the Boudoir of Miss Timelash
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 26 minutes and 41 secondsThe Projecteers tackle the almost universally hated "Timelash".
A new feature in created in "Our Balls".
News is presented for the first time with a correctly played kazoo.
It's just a big argument disguised as a podcast.
Send feedback to pharos.project@yahoo.co.uk
Especially Mp3 as it means less work for us.
-
Pharos Project 28: Cyberwoman Commentary
Episode Duration: 57 minutes and 22 secondsWe done watching and talking!
The Three Projecteers present a commentary on the 1st season Torchwood episode "Cyberwoman". An episode specifically designed to excite the hidden pervert in us all.
Warning: This podcast contains the phrase "robotic humper".
-
Pharos Project 27: Halloween Special
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 25 minutes and 40 secondsIt's the Halloween Special.
The team take a look at the wonderful "Brain of Morbius", the Frankenstein story as viewed through the filter of Doctor Who.
Paul gets a new nickname (which has a completely innocent origin despite what it sounds like you dirty sod).
Barry Manilow delivers the contents of his evil sack.
All in all, the usual mix of banter, name calling and off topic discussions.
Happy Halloween everybody and remember, please don't have nightmares.
-
Pharos Project 26: Roland Emmerich's Wet Dream
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 27 minutes and 13 secondsThe projecteers investigate what happens at "The End of the World", only to find the ninth Doctor trying to impress a young girl.
Dirty boy.
-
Pharos Project 25: Moth Balls
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 20 minutes and 48 secondsThis week, the intrepid Projecteers tackle the William Hartnell story "The Web Planet", (production code N).
We get caught up in the whole Regenergate (props to Doctor Who MHC) explosion.
We actually have emails from supposed listeners to read out.
And Barry Manilow fills his bag with Universal horror themed treats, in time for Halloween.
With all the highly offensive bits sloppily edited out, we present Episode 25.
-
Pharos Project 24: Love and Monsters Commentary
Episode Duration: 47 minutes and 16 secondsAs a bonus episode, we present our first stab at a commentary.
Paul and the Beastmaster attempt to talk all the way through the infamous series 2 episode "Love and Monsters".
Let us know if its any good, we have no idea.
-
Pharos Project 23: Catflaps Rose
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 12 minutes and 28 secondsAh Rose, the episode that signalled the birth of nu Who.
It lit the eternal fire that is Who fandom under many a child's bum, re-lit that same fire in lapsed fans the world over and inspired geeks to embrace the podcast.
Now listen to us rip the shit out of it.
Happy days.
-
Pharos Project 22: Fun at the Funeral Parlour
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 41 minutes and 59 secondsThe much delayed episode 22 is finally here.
This time, we focus our attention on 6th Doctor story "Revelation of the Daleks".
Due to our ongoing inability to manipulate time, this podcast is going out almost raw. Only a light sprinkle of editing has been applied. So expect none of our usual fancy tricks and sweet sherries. Not that we really do those anyway, but still.
-
Pharos Project 21: Half Human, My Arse
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 39 minutes and 51 secondsAnd so we come to the 96 TV movie.
Note how we fail to get excited by this
Marvel at how it quickly descends into an argument.
Wonder at how many times Chris says "anyway", to drag us back on subject, and sounds more annoyed every time.
We all went off to play drunken Singstar after this, stay tuned for a couple of really awful clips of that afterwards.
-
Pharos Project 20: Manimal Crackers
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 26 minutes and 34 secondsIt's the Manimal special! This week we have a bumper news section. We give our mini reviews of "Scott Pilgrim vs the World" and "Monsters". But in the main event, we suckle at the teat of Manimal. Yes, we are still a Doctor Who podcast but we had a brilliant email from a listener that ties Manimal into the Whoniverse. Unfortunately we couldn't read it out because we lost it (please email it again and we'll read it next week).
WARNING: When we say skip on 1 minute to avoid a spoiler, best to make it 2.
-
Pharos Project 19: Carnival of Monster Munch
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 7 minutes and 50 secondsOnce more the horn of assembly has sounded. The slightly posh one and the two tossers have gathered to cast their gaze upon Carnival of Monsters. Along the way, they talk Who news, are shocked by what emerges from Barry Manilow's bag and indulge in some heavy plugging. You have been warned.
-
Pharos Project 18: Citizen K-9
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 0 minutes and 16 secondsFrom the very depths of desperation comes our chaos special. With Chris off with a life threatening case of the sniffles, we stuck our thumbs in the pie of short Who DVDs, and came up sporting K-9 and Company.
-
Pharos Project 17: Aztec Biscuits
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 9 minutes and 15 secondsAt last the 3 hosts are all back on board as we look at "The Aztecs" and episode 2 of "Sherlock".
-
Pharos Project 16: Sherlock's Nightmare
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 27 minutes and 33 secondsBetter late than never, or maybe not in our case. Anyway, here at last is the much delayed episode 16. Paul and the Beastmaster cast their gaze over The Nightmare Man and the first episode of Sherlock.
-
Pharos Project 15: The Chopsticks of Weng Chow Mein
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 11 minutes and 16 secondsIt's our first classic series review. Offered up to The Beastmaster this week was "The Talons of Weng-Chiang". Also, during our drunken stumble towards some sort of a verdict, we talk of Twilight, Predators and our visit to the London Film and Comic Con.
-
Pharos Project 14: The Horns of Simon
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 5 minutes and 12 secondsIt's the second half of our series 5 review this week. We announce the winners of the 2010 Eduardo's. Paul remains confused, while Big Pete remains worryingly sober. Listen out just before the end for the most unconvincing cry of Geranimo in recorded history, courtesy of the Beatmaster.
-
Pharos Project 13: Stephen Hawking ate my Dalek
Episode Duration: 56 minutes and 16 secondsIn this episode, we give our verdict on the first half of series 5. No Mister Chris this week, so Big Pete jumped in to help the two drunks stay on topic. He failed.
-
Pharos Project 12: The Big Balls
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 39 minutes and 12 secondsThe team attempt to answer some of the questions left over from the final episode of series 5 "The Big Bang". Who is River Song? Who is the mysterious voice? What is the silence? Why do Paul's feet stink so? Has Chris really got fountain shaped bollocks? Most importantly, can Little Pete retain his crown as the Doctor Dolittle of Love?
-
Pharos Project 11: The Stonehenge Interstellar Bastard Party
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 35 minutes and 31 secondsThis week, we celebrate the opening of the Pandorica (a new Indian restaurant in East London) by consuming lots of boozes and reviewing the latest episode of Doctor Who. Also, we talk openly about Automan and Manimal, have the lamest lightsaber duel since Obi-Wan got lucky against Darth Maul and our friend Mad Jim pops by to steal some beer.
-
Pharos Project 10: Rising Damp
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 17 minutes and 6 secondsThis week the team take a look at "The Lodger". Expect the usual mix of bickering and name calling and as a special treat, because we've reached double figures, live mild violence.
-
Pharos Project 09: Mr. Snuffleupagus & the Easel of Doom
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 33 minutes and 51 secondsIn this week's episode the team look at "Vincent and the Doctor". This was recorded later in the day than usual, is slightly more boozy and contains a few more swears. Normal service will resume next week, when all the bollocks will be removed by usual editor Chris, and not left in by this episode's editor, Paul.
