Hey Who fans, it’s episode 79. We start a new section of the show this week – Merch Corner which starts after the news. We then have an emotional review of Vincent and the Doctor so let’s do this.

The News

Who would have thought Series 1 from new Who would be so popular? BBC Worldwide have revealed that at their trade even Showtime, Doctor Who: Series 1 is the most purchased show for broadcast worldwide. Go 9 and Rose!

Sad news now. Actor Jon Rollason who played journalist Harold Chorley in the Troughton story The Web of Fear has passed away, aged 84. Involved in various TV projects including The Avengers and Coronation Street, we’ll remember him as the cowardly and often pushy Mr Chorley.

With lots of mud slinging going on with Netflix at the moment and their imminent withdrawal of Who from it’s service, we have good news for our Canadian friends. Streaming service CraveTV have picked up the contract to show Who later this year. Starting with Series 9 after in broadcasts on Space, all previous 8 series’ will then be added by the end of the year. Some good news at least for some fans.

The Four Faces of Delusion hold the inaugural meeting of the Diddly Dum Book Club by reviewing the New Adventures novel “Conundrum” (1994) by Steve Lyons. We also take advantage of the linking theme to review the Second Doctor story “The Mind Robber” from 1968.

Before that, Hayden looks forward to taking the TARDIS Set Tour at Cardiff next week while Matt reminisces about the game of Tour Guide Top Trumps which ensued when the TARDIS tour guides found out what he did for a living.

Along the way, we discover why Matt’s plan to attend a convention cosplaying as DCI Jack Meadows was frustrated; Doc explains the usefulness of “The Faraway Tree” for getting children to observe their bedtime; we learn how the root cause of all Ace’s character problems is that she’s more Morrissey fan than street fighter; and we end by asking are the days of conventions numbered?

In this week’s show we begin our reviews, coordinating with the Traveling the Vortex Book Club, over on the Goodreads website (found here). To start off the year, we review the book, Doctor Who: Legends of Ashildr, the anthology piece featuring the title character portrayed by Maisie Williams in the TV series. We reveal out impressions of the four stories included, as well as share some listener reviews from the Goodreads discussion thread for the book.
